Premier League Picks – Week 23

This weekend’s Premier League action sees some juicy fixtures as always, such as the midtable clash between Leicester and Watford and bottom of the league Swansea hosting high-flying Liverpool on Monday. Let us now take the time to see which players should be watched – and backed – ahead of the next round of games.

It’s a 4-3-3 this week – let’s see what the lineup looks like.

GK – David De Gea

The Manchester United stopper will have to be at his best this weekend when the Red Devils travel to impressive Burnley on Saturday afternoon. The Spaniard is regularly considered among the best goalkeepers in the world – but Turf Moor is a tough place to go.

DF – Kyle Walker

They say that overcoming setbacks is a test of character. The former Tottenham defender lost some point from City conceding four at Liverpool – their first defeat of the season. He will be keen to ensure his side get back to winning ways with the visit of Newcastle on Saturday evening.

DF – Ben Davies

Tottenham have a trip to St. Mary’s when they take on Southampton, and the 24-year-old Welshman enjoyed a successful outing last time when Spurs thrashed Everton 4-0. This is a game that, on paper, should be a win for Spurs – Davies will be going all out for the clean sheet.

DF – Marcos Alonso

It is of course difficult to do teams like this without including the top scoring defender in the Euro Fantasy League game. Alonso has been racking up the points, including five during the disappointing 0-0 draw with Leicester. His attacking threat could be vital when Chelsea face Brighton.

DF – Nicolás Otamendi

For many of the same reasons as Walker, Otamendi will want to get his team back to winning ways. He had a torrid time against Liverpool, getting booked as well as haemorrhaging points for the goals conceded.

MF – Christian Eriksen

Enjoyed his time against Everton, scoring a goal and earning an additional two points for the clean sheet. Southampton are a side struggling defensively this season, and so Eriksen will fancy his chances of picking a killer pass.

MF – Riyad Mahrez

The Leicester man has been the subject of transfer rumours once again, but he won’t come cheap. Did little as far as fantasy points go against Chelsea, so he will want his Foxes side to get something from the visit of Watford.

MF – Raheem Sterling

Will want to put his nightmare return to Anfield behind him. City played well in that game despite losing, but Sterling did struggle. That test of character mentioned with Walker is equally as apt in this case – if not even more so.

AT – Harry Kane

Yes – again! Kane has been breaking records galore, and now every Premier League goal he scores for Tottenham sets a new record. Whether he will be around long enough to challenge Jimmy Greaves’ club record for goals scored remains to be seen – but he’s never far from a goal these days.

AT – Alexandre Lacazette

The Arsenal front-man hasn’t quite had the impact in recent weeks he would have hoped for, and wasn’t able to save Arsenal from falling foul of Bournemouth last weekend. Righting that wrong will be top of his priority list.

AT – Marko Arnautovic

Speaking of Bournemouth, they travel to West Ham this weekend to take on Arnautovic and co. With the Cherries riding high much of the Hammers’ expectations will fall on the former Stoke forward’s shoulders – his assists are as lethal as his goals.

So there we have it – 11 players to watch in the Premier League this weekend. Some stories are of redemption, others are building momentum. Each player has an agenda of their own as well as battling for their team’s cause, so let’s see how these guys do between Saturday afternoon and Monday evening.
