As we look head into the 22nd round of fixtures for the 2017/18 La Liga campaign, we look at the players that we believe could prove star turns for their sides over the weekend.

Sergio Asenjo

The goalkeeper has kept three clean sheets in seven appearances this season and has played a valuable role in his side’s good form of recent.

Whilst Betis sit 13th in the table, they are good for a goal so the once capped Spanish international may have to be at his brilliant best if he is to add to an impressive record.

Marcelo
The highest points scorer amongst Real Madrid’s defence (34) the attack minded Brazilian should be a likely contender for points as his travel to a Levante side in wretched form, with three defeats and two draws in their last five matches.

Marcelo has two goals and three assists this season and will undoubtedly have visions of adding to this tally.

Clement Lenglet
The towering Sevilla centre back has delivered a good haul of points thus far this season, grabbing three goals alongside his seven clean sheets on his way to 26 points.

Frenchman Lenglet  will be hopeful his side have turned around a weak recent run of form that has seen them slip from the Champions League spots as they look ahead to their away game at eighth place Eibar, who have lost one and drawn two of their last three.

Sergi Gómez

The 25-year-old Celta centre back has been a reliable point scorer this season thanks to the two goals he has added to a respectable defensive record.

With his side facing strugglers Alaves, he may be hoping he can add to his record at both ends of the pitch.

Jordi Alba
The wing back is the league’s highest point scorer amongst defenders with 71, his exciting attacking output being matched by Barcelona’s refusal to ship goals this season.

Barcelona must travel to local rivals Espanyol this Sunday in the hope of a 19th league win.

Pione Sisto

The Celta Vigo midfielder has been a significant points scorer for his side this season, grabbing a respectable 37 points this season – thanks mostly to his excellent record of 11 assists.

Vigo travel to an Alaves side that sit precariously above the relegation zone in 17th place this weekend and Sisto  will be hopeful of another victory in what has been a reasonable season for the side.

Pablo Fornals
The Yellow Submarine travels to a Real Betis side that have lost two games on the bounce and will therefore be hoping they can grab a fourth consecutive victory.

The Spaniard scored in his last outing at home to Villarreal – a goal that puts him atop of Villarreal’s point scorers so far this season with 39 points.

Paulinho
Many would have been just in thinking that the Brazilian’s career was as good as over when he took an offer to move to the emergent Chinese league.

Instead, the former Tottenham man has been a revelation since his surprise move to Barcelona.

He’s be hoping he can add to his excellent haul of eight goals and 58 points in the Catalan derby.

Gareth Bale

After an injury hit start to the season that has been a major factor in his side’s slow start to the campaign, the Welshman’s return has coincided with a return to form for Los Blancos, also.

With 27 points and six goals from just ten outings this season, the winger will be hoping to turn up the tempo as his side hope to open up a gap to fifth placed Villarreal.

Carlos Bacca

The man leading the front line as Villarreal take on a leaky Real Betis, Bacca will be hopeful he can grab a place on the score sheet during the weekend’s action.

The Colombian has scored six thus far this season, on his way to 27 points.

Cristiano Ronaldo

He may have had a frustrating start to the campaign but Ronaldo  has hit a vein of form at an optimal time for his club as they look to consolidate a spot in next year’s Champions League.

The Portuguese striker has scored four in his last two and will be expecting to add more when his side travel to 16th placed Levante on Saturday.
