Serie A Club of the Week – Round 24: Milan

An easy choice for Serie A club of the week in the last round, as Milan trashed Spal by scoring four goal and also keeping a clean sheet.

Gennaro Gattuso again picked Patrick Cutrone over André Silva with Nikola Kalinic sidelined and the decision paid big dividends right away, as he scored after just two minutes, on a rebound following an attempted header by Alessio Romagnoli, which was saved centrally by Alex Meret.

Spal tried to answer, but their best chance in the first half, a Federico Viviani’s free kick, died on the post. The Estensi did not manage to pose any further threat to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal after the break and the Rossoneri put the game away after an hour, finally doubling the score coming close with Giacomo Bonaventura’s thumping header and Hakan Calhanoglu’s shot from distance.

Cutrone completed his brace at the 65th minute with another easy score, with the goal wide open after Alex Meret again parried away poorly a curled strike by Suso. The goalkeeper and Viviani combined for a big gaffe eight minutes later as the midfielder was quickly dispossessed by Lucas Biglia moments after he received the ball on top of the box and the former Lazio’s player easily found the back of the goal as Meret had not made his way back yet. Fabio Borini finished the opponents off with a powerful lefty strike from the left side of the box in the final minutes.

It was a great haul from the fantasy perspective: Cutrone was the top earner with eight points, Donnarumma followed suit with seven, Biglia got five, among the defenders Rodriguez and Romagnoli collected five thanks to the clean sheet, Bonucci and Kessie four because they were booked. Borini obviously garnered four, while all the midfielders two. Riccardo Montolivo amassed four because he fed Borini on the final goal.

In the standings, the Rossoneri did not make any ground on the sixth-placed Sampdoria, which still hold a three-point lead, but surpassed Atalanta and are not the first team in the hunt for the final Europa League spot.
