Serie A Team of the Week – Round 28

Some anticipated contributors and some surprises feature in the Serie A Team of the week concerning the 28th round.

Alisson: there were plenty of clean sheets over the week, with Juventus, Atalanta, Verona, Napoli, Fiorentina and Inter also not allowing any goal, but the best performer was once again the Roma’s goalkeeper, who paved the way for his team’s victory with a couple of excellent saves in the first half against Torino, in particular on Iago Falque. He picked up 7 points.

Antonio Caracciolo: two defenders that found the back of the net in this round, the Hellas one scored the game-winner in the Verona derby, gaining his team three critical points in the relegation race. It was a great finish as well, a flick worthy of a seasoned striker. With nine points, he shares the award of the top performer of the week with Manolas.

Kostas Manolas: he broke the gridlock in the Torino game with a nice header taking advantage of poor positioning by the Torino back-line, which left him wide open in the box.

Mattia De Sciglio: a token spot for the Juventus’ defence that continues to be airtight. They have racked up eight clean sheets in a row and have allowed only one goal in the last 14 games. The right back held his own after returning from injury.

Cristiano Biraghi: it must not have been easy for the Viola players to return to the pitch after last week’s tragedy, but they still manage to narrowly defeat Benevento, thanks to a good first half and some stout defending in the second. He amassed five points for the clean sheet.

Marten De Roon: a three-point goal late in the game for the Dutch midfielder, who buried it from the edge of the box with a robust shot. It was just his second goal of the season. He collected six points.

Radja Nainggolan: he did not score, but he assisted his teammates twice in Roma’s three-nil win over Torino. In the first case, he picked out Daniele De Rossi in the box with an header and later on he fed Lorenzo Pellegrini on a counter. He got six points for the two dimes and the clean sheet.

Lorenzo Pellegrini: it took him just few minutes to put his name on the scoresheet on Friday as he finished off a quick counter-attack by his team with an accurate finish.

André Silva: he chose the right exact time for his fist Serie A goal as he solved a game that was headed for a sure-fire nil-nil. Suso sent in numerous tasty crosses on Sunday, the last one found the Portuguese forward for a great header. A clutch score that gives him six points.

Paulo Dybala: La Joya is back in all his splendour. He smashed home one of his trademark lefty free kick and then finished with aplomb in front of Albano Bizzarri off a great assist by Gonzalo Higuain. His partnership with El Pipita is clicking. He was the top striker with eight points.

Marcello Trotta: Crotone bounced back with a great win against Sampdoria and Trotta led the way with a brace. He garnered six points, but he could have had even more because he missed a penalty, which was then tapped in by Adrian Stoian. He is asked to fill the void of Ante Budimir, who will be out for the foreseeable future: he delivered right away.
