As the new 2018/19 season fast approaches it is time to turn our attention to May of next year, when the results will be in as to who is champion of each league, and who will lift the coveted Champions League trophy. If you haven’t gambled on sports before you can try your luck betting on football results over the course of a season, and now is the perfect time to do it for the best odds. Looking more specifically at the Champions League, here is where the smart money should be going.
Real Madrid: Winning the Champions League for 4 years in a row would be a spectacular achievement for the Galacticos, but this year could prove to be too much. With Ronaldo gone, the question remans as to whether Real will thrive without CR9 or whether they will struggle to compete at the top level.
Juventus: Finalists twice in the last 3 years and the new home of Cristiano Ronaldo. Juventus have invested well so far in this window, looking to re-vamp their aging squad. Expect Juventus to challenge as always, but I think there may just be too much of a challenge for the trophy this year. Expect to see them at the quarter finals at the very least.
Manchester City: This year’s favorites should certainly be Manchester City, after storming to the Premier League title last year in fine fashion, Champions League success will no doubt be uppermost in the mind of Pep Guardiola. City have invested well during the summer bringing in stars such as Riyad Mahrez from Leicester, in an effort to bolster their squad to fight on 4 fronts this year.
Barcelona: Barcelona must surely be considered as one of the teams that will be once again contesting for this year’s Champions League trophy. Whilst they may have lost experienced members of the team such as Iniesta, Xavi and Puyol in recent years, any time which features players such as Messi, Suarez and Coutinho will strike fear into the hearts of many other teams. Furthermore, we have yet to see the best of players like Ousmane Dembele, who could very well prove to be a world beater this year.
Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich are always in with a shout of winning this tournament and this year is no different. Bayern have a great mix of experience and young talent which they will be able to call upon throughout this tournament. Bayern still have players in their ranks who won this trophy in 2013, who know just what it takes to win a competition of this magnitude.
Paris St Germain: After investing over €400 million on buying Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, the pressure has really been on PSG to finally lift this trophy. If the victory doesn’t come this year then we can expect one of those players to leave for Real Madrid, and for the board to make radical changes in personnel. This could be the very best chance that PSG have to lift this trophy, but I think that semis is as far as they will get.
Where does your money go on who will lift the trophy in 2019?
