In form Inter Milan continue dominant Serie A form

Inter Milan are the most in form side in Serie A, with Luciano Spalletti’s registering their seventh straight league win on Saturday.

They saw off Genoa in style at the San Siro on Saturday, with an emphatic 5-0 victory, keeping them in second place in the table, ahead of Napoli on goal difference, and six points behind leaders Juventus.

Whilst Max Allegri’s side are still unbeaten so far this season, in domestic and European competition, they did drop points in a 1-1 draw against Genoa in October.

Inter have hit an impressive run of form, after winning just one of their opening four Serie A games of the season.

During this run, Spalletti has been ruthless with his squad rotation, even when individual player’s form has improved – with goal keeper Samir Handanovic the only player to start all 11 Serie A games this season.

He has rotated his back four, and benefited from the return to fitness of key players, following a stop-start opening to the season for a number of them.

Sime Vrsaljko, purchased in the summer from Atletico Madrid, has now fully settled, and is first choice at right back, with fellow new signing Stefan De Vrij, and Milan Skriniar alongside him.

Left back remains a concern, with Spaletti unconvinced by Dalbert in  a defensive sense, he has regularly preferred utility man Kwadwo Asamoah as an experienced presence in defence.

Tactically, Spalletti has shown flexibility between a 4-2-3-1 system, when they have needed greater security, for example in the recent Milanese derby, and 4-3-3, when they have more scope to attack teams.

In their last three Serie A games, Inter have netted nine goals, and conceded none, with the more attacking style proving to be a real confidence boost for Spalletti’s side.

This has meant dropping Radja Nainggolan, and granting more all round midfield role to Marcelo Brozovic, with the Croatian international excelling in recent weeks.

Captain Mauro Icardi is also beginning to show the goal scoring form that Inter need him in, to put a together a consistent full season, with goals in his last four Serie A games.

Sides in the position of Inter, need a talisman, that will put in key performances when they inevitably go through a tough run. If Icardi can fulfill that, then they can be Serie A’s dark horses this season.
