Keita Baldé: “We’re focusing on starting 2019 well”

During an interview with Sky Sport, Inter winger Keita Baldé discussed the relationship he enjoys with his teammates as well as the squad’s expectations for the remainder of the season. The 23-year-old, currently on loan from Ligue 1 side Monaco, has gradually improved since joining the Nerazzurri last summer and has high hopes for the second half of the campaign. Here is what he had to say:

“It was important to win in Empoli to finish the year off well, now we have to focus on starting this year off in a similar fashion as well as trying to do even better and exceeding expectations. When you begin to score your first goals, further goals follow as a consequence of that. I knew what I had in my locker, a bit of patience was simply required. I hope that I can carry on doing what I’m doing. I work hard, look to do well and concentrate on what I do best every day. When it comes to what has happened come the end of the season, only time will tell.

“I like to have fun and joke around, and I’ve been welcomed with open arms at Inter. We are one big family. I also feel comfortable out on the pitch and always try to help out my teammates by doing the best I can. I consider it important to be able to speak a number of languages so you are able to communicate better with your teammates.”

The Senegal internationalist then offered his thoughts on how the season has gone so far: “We’re working really well together when all aspects are considered. Inter are a great club – a club that is getting better year after year. We will give it our all and have a great squad, meaning we’ll be able to face all the competitions we have coming up head-on. We really want to do well.”

Finally, the former Barcelona and Lazio man had a message for all the club’s young fans: “Not everybody has the same level of education, and each one of us is aware of our own actions, whether they are bad or good. Learn the good things when it comes to football, because there are a lot of them: how it’s played as well as showing respect are both key.”

Meanwhile, Roberto Gagliardini looked ahead to Sunday’s Coppa Italia fixture against Benevento when he spoke to Inter TV earlier today: “Considering last year’s experience, we need to pay close attention to make sure that we go far in the Coppa Italia. Benevento are doing well, however, we care a lot about this competition and it’s among our objectives.

“Not a lot changed with playing on Boxing Day. We trained normally and we delayed our break. Now we’re back to work. It was important to get a result before the break and this ensured that our time off was a bit more relaxed. An important second half of the season now awaits us.”
