So, let’s get down to fantasy football talk then, shall we?
Goalkeeper – Norberto Neto (Valencia) – 7.0 million
Valencia have lost only one La Liga game at the Mestalla Stadium this season, conceding just eight goals in their 13 home games. This weekend, they host Athletic Bilbao. Athletic have only won twice on the road, scoring 12 goals in their 12 away games. For that reason, I feel Neto is a good choice in goals as a clean sheet is highly possible for Valencia. Neto has a total of 44 points this season so far.
Defender – Jose Gaya (Valencia) – 6.5 million
I’ve picked two Valencia defenders for the same reason as highlighted above when selecting Neto in goals. I feel Valencia could well shut Athletic Bilbao out at the Mestalla on Sunday. Jose Gaya’s fantasy football total so far this season is 34 points.
Defender – Anaitz Arbilla (Eibar) – 6.5 million
This one is a little out of left field but bear with me. Anaitz Arbilla will almost certainly be starting for Eibar when they play at home to a struggling Celta Viga team in the early game on Sunday. Eibar are favourites for the win and a clean sheet could well go along with that. Arbilla has just 11 points this season in fantasy football but if he can avoid the referee’s notebook then it could be a positive week for him.
Defender – Gabriel Paulista (Valencia) – 6.5 million
The former Arsenal centre-half is my final Valencia selection for this weekend. Gabriel Paulista has been awarded 20 points so far.
Defender – Filipe Luis (Atletico Madrid) – 6.5 million
Filipe Luis is part of the meanest defence in La Liga. Atletico Madrid play away to Real Sociedad on Sunday in what I feel will be a typically cagey, low-scoring game. Luis could be on for another clean sheet and an increase to the 41 fantasy football points he has already earned.
Midfielder – Ruben Jimenez (Eibar) – 5.0 million
Eibar’s Ruben Jimenez could be a smart choice at a cheap price this weekend. Jimenez has 17 points this season and costs just 5.0 million. With Eibar at home to 17th-placed Celta Vigo, Jimenez could score a few extra points if the home side take the game to the struggling visitors.
Midfielder – Sarabia (Sevilla) – 7.0 million
Sevilla’s Sarabia is having a great season. He was unlucky to be on the losing side last weekend against Barcelona and only for the brilliance of Lionel Messi, Sevilla could have taken something from the game. Sarabia and co play bottom-side Huesca this weekend. He has picked up 58 points already this season.
Midfielder – Andre Silva (Sevilla) – 5.5 million
Another Sevilla midfielder I expect to have a good weekend at Huesca is Andre Silva. At 5.5 million, Silva and his 44 fantasy football points look like good value ahead of this game.
Midfielder – Jony (Alaves) – 5.0 million
Alaves’ Jony could cause some problems for the severely underperforming Villarreal side on Saturday. Jony, at 5.0 million, is a snip. He has earned 41 points so far.
Forward – Lionel Messi (Barcelona) – 20.0 million
Did you see Messi last weekend? I’m not sure I’ve witnessed a better hat-trick in my life. It was fantastic. For me, he is without a doubt the best player to ever grace the planet. As I mentioned last week, he does like to turn it on in big games too. Messi has amassed a grand total of 123 points in fantasy football this season.
Forward – Wissam Ben Yedder (Sevilla) – 7.0 million
My third Sevilla selection for this weekend. Wissam Ben Yedder could grab himself a goal or two away to lowly-Huesca, adding to his fantasy football total of 56 points in this campaign.
Team in full (4-4-2): Norberto Neto (Valencia); Jose Gaya (Valencia), Anaitz Arbilla (Eibar), Gabriel Paulista (Valencia), Filipe Luis (Atl Mad); Ruben Jimenez (Eibar), Sarabia (Sevilla), Andre Silva (Sevilla), Jony (Alaves); Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Wissam Ben Yedder (Sevilla)
