Spalletti demanding great Inter performance versus Frankfurt

Luciano Spalletti held his traditional pre-match press conference ahead of Inter’s UEFA Europa League last 16 match against Eintracht Frankfurt tomorrow night. Here is what the 60-year-old tactician had to say: “We must focus on this game in front of us rather than the league. It’s a knockout tie, therefore, I expect something great, with that added bit extra on an individual level. The players are aware that this is a crucial moment.”

Spalletti then updated the gathered journalists on his team’s fitness: “Keita is doing well, while Brozović has been called up but will be on the bench. Borja Valero will play as normal. We hope that these few days rest have got Perišić back to his best. He’s an important player for us. He’s blessed with plenty of qualities, whether that be fitness, physicality or his ability to beat a man. His contribution is key, just like all the other players. Obviously, I won’t complain about who I have available. Complaining doesn’t help you qualify. We’ll have 11 players out on the pitch, which is all that is needed to win matches.

“Resilience. We must be aware of where we’re at and look to get the very best out of our abilities for the longest time possible. We must demonstrate substance, maturity and motivation.” Among the Nerazzurri squad list, there are five players included from the Primavera: “If they’re here it’s because they have the talent to be a part of an academy in a club like Inter. However, you always need to wait for the right moment. There will probably be the opportunity for one or two of them to show what they can do. We’ve followed the instructions of our Primavera coach Madonna. We know the lads already because they’ve trained with us before.

“Adi Hütter’s suspension? It’s disappointing because he’ll be missing out on a great game. These are experiences that you don’t forget. Tactics? Politano played as a striker last year for Sassuolo and did really well. Not giving clear points of reference to the opposition can be an added advantage.” Spalletti concluded by expressing his condolences to João Mário following the passing of his father: “Our thoughts and affection are with him and his family.”
