Allegri’s presser before Genoa-Juventus

Juventus Press Conference

Coach Massimiliano Allegri previewed the clash with Genoa with the press earlier today: “We must balanced in this moment. We pulled off something extraordinary on Tuesday, it was a special, great an important night. We must celebrate it, but once that is done we must dive back into Serie A because there four games before the quarterfinals.”

On Cristiano Ronaldo: “He will not be suspended in Champions League. Otherwise they will have to disqualify the whole stadium. I see it as a regular celebration. He will stay home tomorrow, he needs to recover because he has played a lot. He will also feature with Portugal during the break.”

On the title race: “We need to win five more games. We dropped two points in the first match with Genoa, we will need the right approach tomorrow. We were not mediocre before Tuesday in the same way as we have not reached the final now. We need to take it one step at a time. They have not conceded a lot at home. It will be difficult but we are fine physically and mentally.”

“I will not return on social media, I left because I wanted to, it is as simple as that. It was not the best game of my career: I did not play. I liked the enthusiasm at the Stadium. It was unforgettable, people were emotional. We prevented Atleti from taking any corner kicks, we did well there.”

On Ajax: “They are a quick and quality team. It is hard to play on their turf, the games will be very different from the Atleti ones. It is wrong to look ahead at the semifinals. We will have to lay the foundation to advance in Amsterdam, we must focus on the moment. In five days we have gone from a failure to being in Madrid. I like the formula as we already know our path.”

On the team: “Even who subbed in did well. Paulo Dybala is starting to show what he is capable of again. He could be like a new addition in the last three months. Mattia Perin will start tomorrow. Mario Mandzukic was very important for us, he made a difference in both goals because he occupies defenders with his physicality. He played well and sacrificed a lot. Either he or Moise Kean will be in the XI, the other will be a key sub.”

On the injured player: “Juan Cuadrado showed better than usual today, but we will have him only in the final stretch. Mattia De Sciglio will resume practicing on Monday and will be available in the next game. Douglas Costa will take some tests on Thursday and if they go well he could return for the first Ajax match. Andrea Barzagli still needs to be evaluated. Sami Khedira is doing some light work, when the doctors will give the greenlight he will ramp up the rhythm and we will see where he is at. It has been a tough season for him.”

On the youngsters: “Hans Nicolussi debuted against Udinese, Kean was born in 2000 and has been with us for two years. Nicolas is the most ready, we have other players at a similar age that are good technically but need to grow physically.”

On Ronaldo resting: “I am not a dictator, we discussed it together and he agreed. He is fine physically, but he is 34 and has put on a lot of mileage. He played a lot more in the league compared to a year ago. He is not the only one involved in the rotations. Every season is different.”

On Andrea Agnelli: “I talked with him prior to the game. His virtue is that when he says somethings, that remains true. We will take stock at the end of the season. Obviously we were very happy and hugged after the match.”

On his future: “I go through that kind of the emotions during the moment, but then I have to detach myself from them. My future does not hinge on what we do in Champions League. We will talk with all the components in June, it does not make much sense to discuss it now.”

On Matthijs De Light: “Everybody talks very highly about him, I am curious to see him up close.”
