Luciano Spalletti held his traditional pre-match press conference ahead of Inter’s crucial Serie A match against Frosinone tomorrow night. The 60-year-old Tuscan touched on a variety of issues including the fitness of Lautaro Martínez, Mauro Icardi’s return to the side and whether Radja Nainggolan has failed to live up to expectation since his big money switch from Roma last summer. Here is what he said to the journalists who gathered at the Suning Training Centre earlier this afternoon:
“Lautaro is doing fine, he’s trained well and is ready to play from the start. Icardi and Lautaro are similar in that they’re both centre forwards, but some of their characteristics are different. In any case, the team haven’t needed to adapt and they haven’t needed to adapt because top players can play anywhere.
“Several players on the verge of suspension? From now until the end of the season, it’s possible that players one booking away from suspension will receive a yellow card. All our games are difficult, so it’s not worth thinking about.
“Nainggolan doesn’t owe me anything. Inter needs to be put first and this is where his focus should lie.
“We must not have any regrets come the end of the season and we need to qualify for the Champions League – this is everybody’s aim. We need to do well and make sure that we don’t overlook any details.
“From this point onwards, every game will be decisive, not just matches against direct rivals. We need to focus on ourselves and not make any calculations, while we also need to be the Inter side we’ve seen recently.”
