Juventus’ coaching search rages on in Italy and the sporting director Fabio Paratici chimed in after receiving the Gentleman’s award: “We need to be patient, we are making our evaluations, but we have clear ideas in mind. I feel the pressure from the fans, but it is really a pleasure. I am a supporter first and then an executive. Players like Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Barzagli and Andrea Pirlo are heroes, they are the champions I was the most attached to. I think this accolade suits my club in every aspect, from the first team to the youth ones. I have had the massive fortune of working in a top club, where there are big possibilities and you get to work with great footballers.”
While Pep Guardiola denied the move to Turin at the end of last week, Sinisa Mihajlovic in yesterday’s pre-game presser stated: “I have had some contact with Juventus five years ago. I believe I have changed as a coach, we need to improve constantly, stay updated and study new things. I was born ready.” On the other hand, Lazio’s Simone Inzaghi has refused to talk to the press since the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri.
Barzagli was the recipient of the same award as the director and commented on the touching farewell on Sunday night: “I have yet from recover from it, it was a huge emotion. It was difficult, I have taken an important but necessary step. Allegri and I went through a lot last week, those tears were liberating.” Besides current players, also Buffon, Fernando Llorente, newcomer Aaron Ramsey and Paul Pogba were in the stands at the Stadium for the title celebration and the defender’s farewell. According to Tuttosport, the Frenchman confided that Juventus will always be his family.
The current coach was inducted in the Italian football Hall of fame: “In life and in sports you need courage and to be carefree. When you grow older and become smarter you lose some of that irrationality that helps you do pull off great things that might elude you if you think too much. I can not really give any advice on who will follow me at Juventus, surely he will be backed by a strong management that will allow him to keep winning, as it is part of its DNA. These five years were extraordinary. I thank everybody and also the ones who voted me into the HoF. I will leave the last title’s medal here, it is a relic and it is right for it to be in this museum. It is an honour to be part of the history of Italian football.”
Wojcech Szczesny welcomed his former Arsenal teammate Ramsey to Turin: “He will be a great contributor, he is a midfielder that adds a lot of quality, he is an excellent cutter, he can rack up goals and assists. He is one of the best when he is fine physically and he will help us reach our targets. It will be up to the new coach to decide whether he will play as box-to-box or number ten, as far as I am concerned he can also be used a fullback since he defends very well. We spoke during the Winter before he signed and he asked me for advice, and I simply told him that Juventus come knocking you have no alternative but to say yes. It ended that way, it means that he listens to me. He has had five months to prepare and he already speaks a bit of Italian, he understands it which is a good base. I will help him out.”
