Juventus introduce Demiral

With some delay, Juventus unveiled Merih Demiral earlier today: “I am very happy to be here. I know this is a very important club and that is great for me. I hope to adapt as soon as possible to the new surroundings.”

On his unusual path: “I had to toil to arrive to this point, but it was not surprising to me, everything came from hard work. By being here, I fulfill my dream and I am trying to write a good ending to my journey. I left home when I was 18 to move to Portugal to play for a European team at a young age, I wanted to grow fast and achieve some objectives, like this one.”

On quickly becoming a fan favorite: “I am studying their behavior, I always give my best when I get on the pitch and they appreciate it. I hope to be at peak fitness quickly so I can win them over even further.”

On being the first Turkish player in the history of the club: “It is an honor and I hope to be a model for those who will follow me. I enjoy practicing with such strong players and I would like to prove that you can achieve significant targets through hard work.”

On what impressed him the most so far: “I know it is a very big club, but the training center struck me. I hope to be able to stay here as long as possible.”

On his style: “When I was little, I played on the left wing, then I became a defender at 11-12. It is an honor to join players I have been following for a while. Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci are helping me a lot. I hope to be able to acquire their experience.”

On the back-line: “We have some of the best players in the world there, so it is already nice to be part of it. I hope to become a starter and all my efforts are oriented to reaching the best condition.”

On Sassuolo: “Landing there first last season helped me get acclimated with the Italian league, so I cut my teeth a little. Being a defender here means a lot and I want to improve tactically and technically. I am not really interested in the transfer market rumours, I am happy for joining Juventus at such a young age, it was a dream of mine.”

On the seasonal goals: “We want to win every possible trophy, we are determined and I am sure we will great things this year.”

On Maurizio Sarri: “He focuses a lot on the defense and that is very important. He takes care of it directly and that means that I am able to correct my flaws. I am sure he will require maximum effort from me.”

On the comparison with Paolo Montero: “I have heard of it and saw some videos, it is an honor. I will give my best. My real idols are the ones I am currently playing next to, like Chiellini. I am lucky.”

On Emre Can: “We speak the same language and share the same culture, that is important on and off the pitch. I would like to thank him publicly for the help he is giving me.”

On an unrelated note, Sarri, who has been sick for a week and sit-out the last two friendlies, has been diagnosed with pneumonia and, while he has been at the J-Center in the last few days, he is danger of missing at least the opening match in Parma.
