Serie A Round 3 Fantacalcio Player Trends: Stock Up

Wave goodbye to the dreaded (depending on who you ask) international break and welcome club football back into your lives this weekend.

Round 3 of the 2019/20 Serie A season does not quite measure up to Round 2 in terms of the matchups as it was ‘rivalry week’, but calcio fans should expect more of the same drama from early on in the campaign.

If you have joined one of our many ‘fantacalcio’ leagues hosted on the site, then you will want to brush up on who to consider adding to your respective rosters for this week based on what we have watched thus far.

Here are five players trending upward that you should look to add this weekend.

Ismaël Bennacer (MID, AC Milan, Value: 7.90) – The AFCON 2019 Player of the Tournament came off the bench in the opening season defeat to Udinese, only to start from the jump in the victory over Brescia where he was head and shoulders above the rest of the Rossoneri midfielders. At this point, Marco Giampaolo seems ready to hand the keys to the midfield over to the former Empoli man, which alone makes him worthy of consideration this week. Toss in a respectable value and the opponent Hellas Verona and you have a strong candidate for a top performer.

Domenico Berardi (ATT, Sassuolo, Value: 11.20) – The Italian buried three goals in the 4-1 thrashing of Sampdoria before the international break. One could argue that performance was an outlier, and more indicative of how poor Sampdoria are away from home rather than Sassuolo’s offensive strength. However, the 25-year old’s talent has never been questioned and it is hardly surprising to see him sparkle like he did when he is up for it. At face value, Berardi‘s price may seem steep, but you know his job his safe and perhaps it’s best to strike while the iron is hot against a Roma side who are still trying to sort out their defensive issues.

Andrea Belotti (ATT, Torino, Value 18.40) – ’Il Gallo’ is currently firing on all cylinders for Torino, as well as for the Azzurri, scoring at will and with form reminiscent of what we saw from him in the 2016/17 season in which he smashed home 26. Belotti is the main man up front for Walter Mazzarri and although has one goal to his name currently, he averages 3 shots per game, leading us to believe that we can expect an influx in that department on Monday when Toro host newcomers Lecce. A high price tag no doubt, but one worth accommodating based on recent performances, opponent and his current health.

Sami Khedira (MID, Juventus, Value: 8.50) – The general opinion of Sami Khedira amongst everyone is that his best years and football are behind him. However, new Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri would disagree, evident in the fact that the German was not shipped out this summer and he started in the first two matches of the season with impressive shifts. Whether this is a short-term thing for Sarri who is still feeling out his roster and who fits best in effectively carrying out his 433 is neither here nor there. The fact is the former Real Madrid man has earned the trust of his manager against the approval of the fanbase, and could have a new lease on life for his ‘Old Lady.’ At a value of 8.50, the 32-year old is a safe play in the Bianconeri’s visit to Firenze vs Fiorentina. And, with another good outing, could really have the supporters believing in Khedira again.

Matthijs de Ligt (DEF, Juventus, Value: 8.80) – Sticking with the Juventus theme, there has been plenty of debate surrounding Matthijs de Ligt after his poor debut in the thrilling 4-3 win over Napoli in which the former Ajax star looked completely out of his element in relief of the injured Giorgio Chiellini. Though the takes were reactionary and, in the heat of the moment, expected, the 20-year old’s ability and potential are simply too legitimate to have any of these criticisms hold significant weight, which is why we anticipate a major bounce back vs Fiorentina.  At 8.80, de Ligt is a solid play when you take into account his mental strength to turn up for his club and the responsibility now thrusted onto his shoulders with Chiellini on the shelf.
