Parma were clearly the best team of the week as they rolled the reeling Genoa, even though a cheap goal ruined a glorious fantasy haul.
The Gialloblù were coming off a road loss to SPAL but had beaten Torino and Sassuolo in the last two home fixtures, climbing up the standings. Roberto D’Aversa lost Bruno Alves the day before the match and gave Kastriot Dermaku a chance in the heart of the defence, keeping Riccardo Gagliolo on the left flank, while Matteo Darmian returned from injury on the other one. In the midfield, Matteo Scozzarella and Antonino Barillà were chosen over Hernani, while the trident was the usual one.
Roberto Inglese had the first major chance of the game after beating the offside trap and turning around Cristian Zapata, but his curl did not find the target. The striker was forced to sub off few minutes later after getting his leg trapped under an opponent and was replaced by Andreas Cornelius.
In the first half an hour, Luigi Sepe fumbled the ball on a cross but Goran Pandev’s attempt was blocked by a defender. The goalie then pulled off two great saves on tap-ins by Edoardo Goldaniga. Cornelius squandered his first chance of the match on a strong cross by Gagliolo that had set him up beautifully.
The Ducali broke the deadlock on a counter at the 38th minute, conducted centrally by Juraj Kucka, who then got the ball back from Dejan Kulusevski in the box and knocked it on goal with a sliding attempt. Four minutes later, Cornelius was left unguarded on a free kick from distance by Scozzarella and had no trouble burying a header. They sealed the deal before half time, as Gervinho found room on a fast-break and linked up with Cornelius in the middle of the box and the forward rifled it home.
The Danish international completed his hat-trick at the 50th minute, slotting it in the bottom left corner from the edge of the box, this time assisted by Kulusevski. The Griffon tried to put things into discussion shortly thereafter as Andrea Pinamonti hit the net with a quick strike after settling a cross from the right flank.
However, they Rossoblù again killed by their defence and, with ten minutes to go, Kulusevki pounced on a poor backwards pass by Petar Ankersen, dribbled past the goalie and nudged it on the empty net, rounding up the score.
The Crociati are on a par with Lazio and have just one point fewer than Roma after their third win in the last four matches. Cornelius was the top perfomer in Serie A with his 14-point loot, while Kulusevski brought home eight, Juraj Kucka four, Gervinho and Scozzarella two.
