Following the recent developments in Italy, AC Milan have decided to suspend training for at least a week. Considering that the league has been suspended until April 3rd, the Rossoneri certainly have the time to take these precautionary measures, following the heavy Coronavirus outbreak in the country.
The decision was announced on the club’s official website earlier today, stating that training is scheduled to resume on Monday next week. However, as mentioned, depending on how the upcoming days will pan out, the suspension could be extended to protect the players.
As we wrote about last night, there are three possible scenarios for the remainder of the season. However, there is certainly no easy fix to the situation, which depends on several external factors. The Euros, which is scheduled to start in early June, will be decisive as pushing it back would allow Serie A clubs to finish the season.
In any case, the main priority is to stop the spread of the virus in Italy. For the time being, it’s only getting worse and many resources are needed to battle the virus. Therefore, Milan have donated €250K to the AREU (Lombardy Region’s emergency response arm).
In addition to the club, the Rossoneri players wanted to help as well. In fact, each of them decided to donate a day’s wages to help address the ongoing health emergency in Italy. Hopefully, the situation will improve in the country – as well as all over Europe – given how serious the virus is.
As much as we would like to see Calcio back in action, it’s clear that public health will have to come first. Most likely, this season will go down in the history books, as the effects of the Coronavirus are truly remarkable. Hopefully, it’s something that won’t happen too often in the future.
