The Spanish goalkeeper was signed by Manchester United for a massive fee close to £17 million. De Gea initially failed to justify his price tag as he delivered several inconsistent performances during the 2011-12 season. However, the Spaniard improved considerably during the 2012-13 campaign making 28 league starts and over 80 saves. He was particularly impressive for United in the Champions League. As for the 2013-14 season, de Gea managed to keep 12 clean sheets despite United's disastrous campaign and the club's much maligned defensive line. He was part of Spain's squad during the disastrous Brazil 2014 campaign.
