Juventus injury updates and ICC news

Exactly one month after undergoing a heart ablation, Sami Khedira has passed the cardiology tests and has been cleared to practice, Juventus announced yesterday. The German international respected his initial timetable and could be at the coach’s disposal for the next game versus Empoli, although he will likely be eased into things after the health scare.

As anticipated last week by Massimiliano Allegri, Douglas Costa took some tests yesterday too, but, according to Tuttosport, he has not progressed enough to train fully and will continue to rehab for a week before another check-up. Juventus have not been particularly forthcoming about his problem, but he is believed to be dealing with a hematoma in his quad that has not been absorbed yet. His goal is to recover for April 10th’s match with Ajax, but it is not a slam dunk. The Brazilian winger last played on February 2nd against Parma and has collected just 17 appearances thus far, scoring once.

This summer, the Bianconeri will take part to International Champions Cup for the fourth time, as announced by the organizer Relevent Sport. The other teams already confirmed for the 2019 edition are Milan, Benfica, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Tottenham, Inter and Atletico Madrid. All the participants, the location and the full schedule will be unveiled at a launch event on March 27th.

According to the New York Times, differently from previous years, the Old Lady will feature in the Asian part of the bracket, rather than in the American one, to dodge Cristiano Ronaldo’s legal troubles in the United States. The Kathryn Mayorga case has been dormant for few months, but the ace is still under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and would risk being detained.

His agent Davide Lippi commented on Leonardo Spinazzola’s recent good run: “He does not surprise me, he is a high caliber player and could be a starter at Juventus. We all know there are 18 of them there. He is not inferior to Alex Sandro. He stayed in January when he could have been loaned out because everybody believed it would be the right choice for him and that he could have been one extra weapon for the coach.”

The international break usually puts a dent in a team’s march, but Quotidiano.net observes that the Madama has fared well after the pauses this year, dropping points only against Genoa and prevailing against Sassuolo, SPAL and Milan in the Supercoppa.
