Ligue 1 Picks for the week ahead

Thomas Lemar Monaco

The absence of PSG in the weeks fixture list means there are plenty of opportunities for the stars from the rest of the league to shine this weekend. Here are our picks for the upcoming games.

Anthony Lopes, Lyon – 37 points

Having been at Lyon for 18 years, Lopes is something of a legendary figure at the club nowadays.

The French-born Portuguese keeper will be hoping to add to a haul of ten clean sheets across the campaign as they take on strugglers Toulouse.

Adil Rami, Marseille – 54 points

Rami is now a veteran of the game but is in the midst of a stellar season.

With 13 clean sheets over the season, his form will be vital to Marseille getting a result against a potentially tricky Dijob side.

Jérôme Roussillon, Montpellier – 58 points

The French left-back is on an impressive points haul having scored and assisted three goals to add to his nine clean sheets.

Montpellier sit in seventh place and take on thirteenth Caen.

Pedro Mendes, Montpellier – 44 points

The Portuguese centre back has played a hand in 11 clean sheets this season, a record that has helped facilitate a strong league table positon for his club.

A positive end to the season could see him with an outside chance of going to the World Cup with his national side.

Kamil Glik, Monaco – 53 points

Glik has secured an impressive 11 clean sheets this season for a Monaco side that have hit a rich vein of form, winning four of their last five games.

The Polish centre back has been a stalwart of the Monaco team since his arrival at the club and will be a pivotal player in their upcoming tie

Florian Thauvin, Marseille – 104 points

The French winger has put in one of the standout performances of the season and will likely be attracting the interest of some of the game’s biggest clubs.

With Marseille playing mid-table Dijon, he’ll be hopeful that he can add to his great haul of 16 goals and ten assists in 2017/18.

Nabil Fekir, Lyon – 78 points

Lyon have returned to winning ways recently, having won their last two games and will be hoping to add to their record as they host a Toulouse side that sits perilously close to relegation.

Fekir has been the star of the campaign and will be hoping he can build upon his 16 goals in 2017/18.

Thomas Lemar, Monaco – 37 points

He may not have had the best campaign in the red and white of Monaco but the Frenchman’s form in the international break has shown what he can do at his very best.

With seven assists in Ligue 1 thus far, he could pose a real problem for the Rennes defence.

Radamel Falcao, Monaco – 69 points

His renaissance since returning to France has been of such magnitude that he is well within the discussion for the league’s best striker once again.

The Columbian has netted 17 goals in 21 game this season and will be hoping to add to that in his side’s mid-week clash.

Memphis Depay, Lyon – 52 points

Another man to have rejuvenated his career since moving to France, Depay has now scored 10 and assisted a further six this season – putting his poor spell at Manchester United truly behind him.

His record speaks for itself and he’ll be another player primed to give Toulouse a headache on the weekend.
