Iborra’s season ending injury not enough to dampen strong first year with Leicester

Iborra

Joining Leicester City in the summer having been a part of a Sevilla side that won three consecutive Europa League titles, plus captained the Andalusian side at times, Vicente Iborra’s leadership and experience has seen him enjoy a fine first season with the Foxes.

Although he missed the start of the campaign with a groin injury, the £12 million signing wasted little time in endearing himself to the fans by performing brilliantly on debut against Bournemouth and in Leicester’s unlikely Carabao Cup triumph vs. Liverpool.

While he hasn’t started every game for the Foxes, he’s been largely solid thereafter, notably making 22 starts in all competitions, as he’s certainly been one of the best value signings in the Premier League.

Contributing admirably on both sides of the ball, the 30-year-old’s added vast intelligence, composure and dedication to the side now managed by Claude Puel.

Aside form forming a terrific midfield partnership with young Wilfred Ndidi, the Spaniard’s wonderful movement, positional sense and ability to read the play has formed a sound platform for Leicester’s offensive work. When combined with his vast repertoire of passing over short, intermediate and long distances, it’s easy to see why he’s grown into such an important element here.

On the defensive end, meanwhile, the 190cm colossus has used his hulking frame to great use. Whether through winning aerial duels, stretching out to nip in with vital interventions or proving a huge obstacle to overcome in 1v1 battles, he’s been a real handful for his adversaries to compete with.

Despite his season looking set to be over following his recent hamstring injury vs. Newcastle United, Iborra has every reason to be satisfied with his impressive first season in the Premier League.
