Serie A Weekly News Recap

Alisson Becker

It was a quieter week on the transfer market front, but a ginormous deal still went down as Roma sold Alisson to Liverpool. Milan will participate to Europa League as they won the appeal in front of the CAS. Parma and Chievo are still awaiting judgement on the trials that have put their Serie A stay in danger.

SPAL made a considerable investment to bring in Andrea Petagna from Atalanta, who would cost €15M if they avoided relegation, therefore triggering the obligation to buy. They had signed a similar striker in Marco Borriello last year, but that did not pay off. A great facilitator, Petagna is not much of a goal scorer, but contributes greatly in other areas. They have also added a ton of experience in the defence with the arrival of Johan Djourou from Antalyaspor, who could easily become a starter.

Fiorentina acquired a pair of central midfielders in their attempt to replace Milan Badelj, who is still a free agent, but will not return. Christian Norgaard from Brondby has similar traits, while Gerson from Roma gives them one more body there and perhaps he will be finally able to find a precise role. Stefano Pioli also tested Jordan Veretout in front of the defence.

A busy week for Udinese, as they bid farewell to Maxi Lopez, who signed for Vasco da Gama, Albano Bizzarri, who will play at Foggia, and Stipe Perica, loaned to Frosinone. They purchased two fizzy wingers as they are building a roster that fits a more offensive different scheme: Darwin Machis from Granada and Ignacio Pussetto from Huracan.

Sampdoria found their Ivan Strinic replacement in Junior Tavares from Sao Paulo and have a new starting goalkeeper in the promising Emil Audero, owned by Juventus, who showed well last year at Venezia. The Old Lady loaned Rogerio back to Sassuolo, which also signed Mehdi Bourabia from Konyaspor and Jeremie Boga from Chelsea to bolster their midfield. The seven-game suspension of Roberto De Zerbi has been nullified.

Staying in Emilia, Parma reached agreement with Luca Rigoni, who had some brilliant stretches at Genoa and Palermo in previous years. Bologna acquired Federico Mattiello from Atalanta on a season-long loan with obligation to buy, so the Bergamaschi, after purchasing him in January, decided to give him away before having a chance to see him in action.

Torino completed the acquisition of Vitalie Damascan from Sheriff and loaned Lucas Boye to AEK Athens. Their promising defender Kevin Bonifazi continues to struggle with injuries: he underwent surgery for bilateral hernia and will miss the start of the season.
