EPL Best XI – Week 2

James Milner

The second week of the Premier League season featured 35 goals and plenty of drama, with Manchester City winning 6-1 against Huddersfield, Manchester United losing 3-2 at Brighton and Chelsea edging a five-goal thriller against Arsenal. But which players stood out to make the EPL Best XI of the Weekend?

GK: Neil Etheridge, Cardiff City – seven points
Two weeks into the season, Neil Etheridge is proving to be an absolute steal at 1.50m. The Cardiff goalkeeper saved a last-minute penalty from Kenedy in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle, earning an impressive seven points.

DF: Joe Bennett, Cardiff City – five points
Neil Warnock’s side might not have scored a goal yet since their promotion to the Premier League but at least they looked steady at the back against Newcastle, with Joe Bennett helping the Bluebirds keep a clean sheet.

DF: Steve Cook, Bournemouth – five points
Along with Benjamin Mendy, Steve Cook leads the way at the top of the EFL Fantasy defenders chart with 11 points so far this season. The centre-back scored the winner in Bournemouth’s 2-1 victory at West Ham.

DF: Ciaran Clark, Newcastle United – five points
Cardiff 0-0 Newcastle wasn’t the prettiest Premier League game of the weekend, but it sure was profitable for EPL Fantasy players. Toon defender Ciaran Clark was among those who earned his first positive points of the season.

DF: Marcos Alonso, Chelsea – five points
A capable defender who poses an attacking threat down the left, who wouldn’t want Marcos Alonso in their team? The Chelsea left-back scored the winner in the 3-2 victory over Arsenal on Saturday.

MD: Theo Walcott, Everton – six points
Valued at 7.00m, Theo Walcott might be a shrewd addition to your EPL Fantasy team. The Everton man scored one and set up another for Richarlison in the 2-1 win at home to Southampton.

MD: Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Arsenal – six points
Could this be the season that Henrikh Mkhitaryan starts consistently and picks up points from midfield for Arsenal? Like Walcott, he was involved in two goals, scoring one and recorded an assist for Alex Iwobi in the defeat at Chelsea.

MD: James Milner, Liverpool – six points
A midfielder who creates chances and chips in with the odd goal from the penalty spot, James Milner took his tally for the season to 10 points after converting a penalty in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

MD: Sadio Mane, Liverpool – six points
Sadio Mane leads the way at the top of the EPL Fantasy charts with 16 points so far this season. The Liverpool man added another six points to his tally by scoring late on against Palace.

ST: Troy Deeney, Watford – six points
Troy Deeney ensured Watford scored their first goals away from home in the Premier League since January by setting up Andre Gray’s opener in the 3-1 win at Burnley before adding one of his own in the second half.

ST: Sergio Aguero, Manchester City – 14 points
The standout player in the Premier League this weekend, by a long distance, was Sergio Aguero, who scored three of City’s six goals against Huddersfield to complete the 13th hat-trick of his career.
