EPL Best XI – Sturridge joins Kane in attack

Daniel Sturridge

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea maintained their unbeaten starts in Week 7 of the 2018-19 season, while Manchester United’s poor run continued with a 3-1 loss at West Ham. Let’s take a look at the top players from the weekend’s games…

GK: Jordan Pickford, Everton – seven points
It’s been a tough start to the season for Jordan Pickford but he finally got his first clean sheet in the 3-0 win over Fulham at Goodison Park, earning himself seven points. He is still on minus points (-3) overall, but this is a start!

DF: Kieran Trippier, Tottenham – seven points
After being deducted one EPL Fantasy point in each of his last three games, Kieran Trippier got back on track with an assist in the 2-0 away win over Huddersfield. Spurs’ clean sheet means he earned seven points in total, moving him on to 15 points for the season.

DF: Jonathan Otto, Wolves – eight points
With 18 EPL Fantasy points from four games, Jonathan Otto is bound to be added to a few teams in the near future. He picked up another eight points at the weekend after scoring in Wolves’ 2-0 win over Southampton.

DF: Harry Maguire, Leicester – nine points
Harry Maguire has struggled to pick up consistent points this season, but he bounced back in style from a recent low-scoring spell with nine points – the highest of any player at the weekend – following his goal in the 2-0 win at Newcastle.

DF: Lucas Digne, Everton – five points
Much-improved defensively and a constant threat down the left, Lucas Digne gets in the Best XI for the first time this season. He didn’t get an assist in the 3-0 win over Fulham but he still picks up a respectable five points for helping his side keep a clean sheet.

MD: Raheem Sterling, Manchester City – eight points
Raheem Sterling has scored or assisted in all but one of his Premier League appearances in 2018-19 so far. This weekend, he went one better by scoring a goal and setting up another in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Brighton.

MD: Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Burnley – six points
Johann Berg Gudmundsson has been gradually building up points recently. He picked up another six in Burnley’s 2-1 win at Cardiff after he set up one goal and scored another, meaning he now has one goal and three assists for the season.

MD: Mesut Ozil, Arsenal – six points
With Arsenal in form and scoring goals for fun lately, Mesut Ozil chipped in with one of his own in the 2-0 win over Watford. He now has 12 points in 2018-19 – no other Gunners player has more.

MD: Gylfi Sigurdsson, Everton – six points
Gylfi Sigurdsson more than made up for his penalty miss by scoring two goals in Everton’s 3-0 win over Fulham. His reward of six points takes him onto 11 points for the season – only Theo Walcott (14) has more for the Toffees this season.

ST: Harry Kane, Tottenham – eight points
Harry Kane scored both of Tottenham’s goals in the 2-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday, earning himself eight points and moving onto 20 points in 2018-19 already. Sergio Aguero (26) is the only striker with more points.

ST: Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool – four points
Two goals and eight EPL Fantasy points from 44 Premier League minutes must be some kind of record. Daniel Sturridge earned Liverpool a point late on at former club Chelsea with a stunning long-range strike, taking his tally to an impressive eight points for the season.
