EPL Best XI – Aubameyang and Lacazette lead the way

Unbeaten Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool are only separated by goal difference at the top of the Premier League table after Week 8 of the 2018-19 season. Let’s take a look at which players made our Best XI of the weekend…

GK: Hugo Lloris, Tottenham – seven points
Hugo Lloris started his first Premier League game since August as Tottenham narrowly defeated Cardiff 1-0 on Saturday. The Frenchman earned seven points in the match — no other goalkeeper picked up more over the weekend.

DF: Eric Dier, Tottenham – nine points
Eric Dier plays most of his football in midfield these days but he is still classed as a defender in EPL Fantasy football. His goal and clean sheet against Cardiff saw him pick up nine points, taking his tally for the season to 17 points.

DF: David Luiz, Chelsea – five points
A steady scorer of points this season, David Luiz earned another five points by helping Chelsea keep a clean sheet in the 3-0 victory at Southampton on Sunday.

DF: Lewis Dunk, Brighton – five points
Nothing was getting past Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy in Brighton’s 1-0 win over West Ham. Duffy just missed out on the Best XI due to a yellow card, so Dunk is the only Brighton representative thanks to his five points.

DF: Nathan Ake, Bournemouth – five points
Bournemouth stunned Watford with a 4-0 win at Vicarage Road to move up to sixth in the table. Nathan Ake was part of the defence that kept a clean sheet for the visitors, earning five points.

MD: Eden Hazard, Chelsea – eight points
Another week, another Eden Hazard appearance in the Best XI. The Chelsea talisman scored one goal and set up another in the 3-0 win over Southampton to receive eight points, meaning he remains the top points scorer in the Premier League this season (44 in total).

MD: Ross Barkley, Chelsea – eight points
Ross Barkley matched Eden Hazard’s points tally against Southampton, scoring one goal and grabbing an assist, to pick up an impressive eight points. He now has 12 points in 2018-19.

MD: Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal – six points
Aaron Ramsey only played 27 minutes in Arsenal’s win over Fulham but it was still enough time to get on the scoresheet and set up another goal in the 5-1 rout. He now has 14 points in his last three matches.

ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal – 10 points
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang played a little longer than Ramsey — 32 minutes in total — and managed to score two goals, as well as register an assist, to pick up a league-high 10 points over the weekend.

ST: Alexandre Lacazette, Arsenal – eight points
Unai Emery showed faith in Alexandre Lacazette by starting him ahead of Aubameyang and the Frenchman didn’t let his boss down. He scored two goals in the 5-1 victory, earning eight points.

ST: Josh King, Bournemouth – eight points
The Josh King-Callum Wilson double act worked wonders for Bournemouth in the 4-0 win over Watford. Wilson scored another goal, earning six points, but King went one better by scoring twice to receive eight points. The strikers both have 17 points in 2018-19.
