EPL Best XI – Sterling stars again

Raheem Sterling

The 11th weekend of the 2018-19 Premier League season saw Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea maintain their unbeaten starts, while Manchester United came from behind to beat Bournemouth. Let’s take a look at the top EFL Fantasy points scorers from the weekend’s games…

GK: Kasper Schmeichel, Leicester – seven points
Kasper Schmeichel kept a clean sheet during an emotional 1-0 victory for Leicester at Cardiff. The Dane’s seven-point reward sees him move on to four points for the season.

DF: DeAndre Yedlin, Newcastle – five points
Newcastle picked up their first league win of the season on Saturday, with Ayoze Perez scoring the only goal of the game against Watford. The result also saw Rafa Benitez’s side record their second clean sheet in a row, meaning DeAndre Yedlin has earned 10 points in his last two games.

DF: Wes Morgan, Leicester – five points
Only two teams kept clean sheets at the weekend — Leicester and Newcastle — so we’re not exactly spoilt for choice with defender options this week. Wes Morgan played a key role in the Foxes’ win over Cardiff, so he earns a spot in our Best XI for the first time this season.

DF: Paul Dummett, Newcastle – five points
There has been a lot of negativity around Newcastle this season, but Paul Dummett has still managed to pick up an impressive 15 points so far in 2018-19 — the same amount as Paul Pogba. He earned another five points in the 1-0 win over Watford.

MD: Raheem Sterling, Manchester City – 12 points
Another weekend, another Best XI appearance for Raheem Sterling. The Manchester City forward scored twice and set up another two goals in the 6-1 trouncing of Southampton, earning himself a weekend-high tally of 12 points.

MD: Felipe Anderson, West Ham – seven points
We tipped Felipe Anderson to come good and pick up a few EFL Fantasy points at the start of the season. It took a little longer than we hoped, but at least he repaid some managers’ faith by scoring twice in the 4-2 win over Burnley.

MD: Leroy Sane, Manchester City – six points
Leroy Sane has been a consistent scorer of points since he worked his way back into the City XI in September. He picked up another six at the weekend after scoring one goal and setting up another against Southampton.

MD: James Milner, Liverpool – four points
James Milner has quietly been picking up more and more points over the last few weeks. He scored in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Saturday, taking his tally for the season to 22 points — the same amount as Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela.

ST: Alvaro Morata, Chelsea – eight points
Is Alvaro Morata finally on track at Chelsea? He scored two goals in the 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday. The Spaniard now has three goals in four games and 19 points for the season.

ST: Sergio Aguero, Manchester City – seven points
You can always rely on Sergio Aguero to chip in with points. The Argentine is the highest-scoring striker in the league this season (36 points) and he added to his tally with a goal and two assists against Southampton.

ST: Pedro Rodriguez, Chelsea – six points
Pedro Rodriguez ended a spell of four games without any points by scoring and assisting in the win over Crystal Palace. Considering he doesn’t start many games for Chelsea, 18 points is a decent return at this stage of the season.
