EPL Best XI – Week 32

MilivojevicAt this late-ish stage of the season, Premier League clubs do of course start gaining games in hand over some of their rivals. At the time of writing, for example, league leaders Liverpool have played 32 games, while second-placed Man City have featured in 31 and Arsenal (in fifth) are on 30. Of course, Monday evening games play a part, but so too does the progress of different teams in different competitions. Liverpool now have a two point lead at the top of the table, though City have of course played that one game less. It is now time to look at which players performed the best for their clubs in this past weekend’s round of games, adopting a 4-4-2 formation here. For simplicity, we are calling this week 32 but that may not apply to all teams of course.

GK - Tom Heaton (Burnley)
Heaton has missed much of the campaign through injury of course, but he is now back to full fitness and played well during Burnley’s 2-0 win at home against Wolves, picking up seven points for the clean sheet.

DF – Wes Morgan (Leicester)
Morgan was among the top Premier League defenders this past weekend, earning himself a great nine points in Leicester’s 2-0 triumph over Bournemouth. Five came from the clean sheet, with another four coming thanks to his goalscoring exploits.

DF – Patrick van Aanholt (Crystal Palace)
Like Morgan, van Aanholt earned nine points as well. He scored one of the Eagles’ goals in their 2-0 win against Huddersfield, earning himself five for the clean sheet as well.

DF – Kurt Zouma (Everton)
Rounding off the trio of goalscoring defenders in this list, on-loan Everton star Kurt Zouma grabbed a goal as the Toffees won 2-0 at West Ham. This means he also earned nine, with five from the clean sheet.

DF - James Tarkowski (Burnley)
England international Tarkowski fell slightly behind the other three defenders on this list in Burnley’s win over Wolves – he earned five for the clean sheet, and two as he provided an assist. Still a great showing!

MF – Bernardo Silva (Man City)
There was one runaway midfielder in the Premier League this weekend, and his name is Bernardo Silva. He scored one and set up the other as City strolled to a 2-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, plus two for the clean sheet gives him a weekly total of eight.

MF - Luka Milivojevic (Crystal Palace)
Milivojevic joins team-mate van Aanholt in this week’s list after his performance during that 2-0 win over now-relegated Huddersfield. He scored one and earned two for the clean sheet, giving him six.

MF - Pierre Höjbjerg (Southampton)
Höjbjerg dictated play from the middle as Southampton won 1-0 at Brighton. He scored the only goal of the game, and so wound up with a tally of six for the week – taking his season total to 15.

MF – Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)
One of the highest points-scoring midfielders in the Premier League this season, Firmino took his tally to 92 with the four points earned as the Reds beat Tottenham 2-1, Firmino scoring one of the goals.

ST – Sergio Aguero (Man City)
Not for the first time this season, Sergio Aguero tops the Euro Fantasy League game for Premier League strikers. He nabbed six points this weekend thanks to his performance in west London, scoring one and assisting the aforementioned Silva taking him to 92 for the campaign.

ST – Marcus Rashford (Man Utd)
Completing the all-Manchester strikeforce is United forward Marcus Rashford, who earned himself four fantasy points in the 2-1 win over Watford. He scored one of United’s goals to ensure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure as permanent United manager got off the mark with maximum points.
