EPL Best XI – Week 34

With the Premier League now very much entering the business end of the season, and with just a few matches remaining to decide the respective fates of several teams, there was a full schedule of games in England’s top-flight this past weekend. Once again, the spread of fixtures was great with Newcastle winning at Leicester on Friday night, six games taking place on Saturday, title challengers Man City and Liverpool winning their respective games on Sunday and Arsenal travelling to Watford on Monday. Results this weekend meant that both City and Liverpool are guaranteed to finish first and second in either combination. With that in mind, let’s take a look and see which players performed the best in their position, using a 4-3-3 formation.

GK – Alisson (Liverpool)
The Brazilian stopper is once again the top of the pile in the Premier League goalkeeper charts, with seven points earned from an impressive clean sheet during Liverpool’s 2-0 win at Anfield against Chelsea.

DF – Victor Wanyama (Tottenham)
Classed as a defender on the Euro Fantasy League game, Wanyama came out on top this weekend with nine points gleaned from Spurs’ 4-0 home win against Huddersfield. He scored one for four points and earned five for the clean sheet.

DF – Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
The former Southampton man came second with seven points this weekend – five for the clean sheet during that 2-0 win against Chelsea and two for assisting one of the goals.

DF – Timothy Fosu-Mensah (Fulham)
Young Dutch defender Fosu-Mensah impressed as Fulham recorded their first win in quite some time this weekend, earning five points for the clean sheet as the Cottagers impressively beat Everton 2-0 at Craven Cottage.

DF – Steve Cook (Bournemouth)
Cook earned five points for himself and his fantasy managers as Bournemouth made the relatively short journey to Brighton and thumped their fellow south coast outfit 5-0, taking his season total to 16.

MF – Lucas Moura (Tottenham)
Moura tops the midfield charts this weekend with a whopping 16 points from Spurs’ comfortable 4-0 home win against Huddersfield. He earned 14 for hitting a hattrick as well as two for the clean sheet.

MF – Ryan Fraser (Bournemouth)
Fraser also excelled for Bournemouth during their happy travels to Brighton. He ended up with 10 points for the week, scoring one and providing two assists (as well as being rewarded for the clean sheet of course).

MF – Nathan Redmond (Southampton)
Another south coast based player to have excelled this weekend, Redmond scored two goals (and, consequently, eight points) as Southampton earned a great win by beating visitors Wolves 3-1 at St. Mary’s.

ST – Callum Wilson (Bournemouth)
What a showing for Bournemouth players this weekend! Wilson makes it a hattrick for the Cherries as he finished the weekend with eight points, the joint most for a Premier League striker, having scored one and set up two.

ST – Chris Wood (Burnley)
Wood had another successful weekend this time out as Burnley beat Cardiff 2-0 in a huge relegation clash, all but securing their safety. He scored both of Burnley’s goals and piled the pressure on the Bluebirds, who now look like they face an uphill battle to survive.

ST – Gabriel Jesus (Man City)
Jesus makes the list as the most consistent of the strikers to have scored four points this weekend, scoring one of City’s goals in their 3-1 win at Crystal Palace to keep pace at the top of the table.
