Sitting next to Antonio Conte in the pre-match press conference ahead of Inter’s opening International Champions Cup fixture against Manchester United was Nicolò Barella. Here is what the young Italian midfielder had to say to the journalists gathered in Singapore, having recently completed a move from boyhood club Cagliari:
“It’s all really exciting. Inter were eager to sign me and I’ll try to repay their faith. I joined up with my teammates slightly late and will try to reach the maximum level as soon as possible. I was relaxed during the negotiation phase, I’m absolutely convinced of Inter’s project. It’s the best club for me and the coach is fantastic. I’m ambitious and want to improve.”
Barella then talked about his first training sessions with the Nerazzurri, who are set to face Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain in Asia, as well as the Red Devils tomorrow: There’s the feeling I’ve arrived at a big club, the sessions are tough but will prove useful in time. I’m trying to get up to speed with the others, the coach is asking a lot of us and we have to give everything.”
