Serie A Weekly Transfer Market Recap

There were barely any deal in the first few sleepy days of August, where Fiorentina and Milan were the main protagonists. La Viola signed Kevin-Prince Boateng and Pol Lirola from Sassuolo and sold Vitor Hugo to Palmeiras, hinting a switch to their defensive philosophy since they used to deploy Nikola Milenkovic at right back, but will no go with a more normal and aggressive look. The Rossoneri instead cashed in on Patrick Cutrone, who joined Wolverhampton, and substituted him with Rafael Leao from Lille, who projects to be a better fit next to Krzysztof Piatek, and then announced Ismael Bennacer from Empoli on Sunday. Juventus completed the sale of Moise Kean to Everton

Milan also loaned youngster Alessandro Plizzari to Livorno, who could be their goalkeeper of the future if Gianluigi Donnarumma ever leaves. The rumours about that have not gained much traction recently after the deal with PSG did not go through and sending Plizzari to another club is another signal that the current #1 is poised to stay through September. Not exactly a transfer, but Roma’s Nicolò Zaniolo had a heartfelt interview where he committed to the Giallorossi and all the whispers will be quashed once the contract extension will be sorted out, which is expected to happen rather quickly.

Two more players bolted from Serie A to transfer to Wolverhampton: highly rated but rarely used youngsters Bruno Jordao and Pedro Neto. Lazio were able to make a good profit despite them playing a grand total of eight games combined over the last two seasons.

Parma continue to shore up the squad and brought in some competition for Matteo Scozzarella as deep-lying playmaker with Gaston Brugman, who was last seen in the top Italian league two years ago with Palermo, but nobody from the Rosanero had a good campaign back then, and further worked in Pescara, where he was quite clearly the best midfielder in Serie B, and arrives ready to contribute in a considerable manner.

After five years in Italy spent between Chievo, Sampdoria, Roma, Atalanta and especially Genoa, Ervin Zukanovic has moved to Saudi club Al Alhi. The Griffon had brought in Cristian Zapata in the back earlier in the window and if, they do not find somebody else, they could opt to keep Jawid El Jamiq on the roster to have more depth. Fiorentina loaned David Hancko to Sparta Prague, whose job as back-up left back will be taken by recently acquired Aleksa Terzic.
