Eight years after leaving Udinese, Alexis Sanchez is back in Serie as Inter reached agreement with Manchester United on a straight-up season-long loan. The two clubs negotiated at length on how to structure the deal and divvy up the wages and will have to do it again regarding the fee if the Nerazzurri decide to buy him next summer.
After few great seasons at Arsenal, Sanchez was pretty poor in his 18 months at Old Trafford, where he managed to score just four times in 45 appearances. However, he is coming off a strong Copa America with Chile. The 30-year old forward racked up 80 goals and 45 assists in three and half years with the Gunners and was equally good in his time in Barcelona.
Although he can be used on the either flank, Sanchez showed his best material centrally and probably even as false-nine despite his size, and, if he bounces back, he is set to work well in a two-striker set next to either Romelu Lukaku or Lautaro Martinez. The Argentinian attacker takes a slight hit with an addition of this quality. Sanchez’s versatility will also allow the coach deploy a more offensive scheme with two wingers when they need to score.
Over his career, Sanchez has won the league in three different countries: in Chile with Colo Colo, in Argentina with River Plate and in Spain and will be hoping to make it four with the Beneamata.
Inter also completed a left-back swap on Thursday, signing Cristiano Biraghi from Fiorentina and sending Dalbert to La Viola. Biraghi had an interesting growth in the last two seasons, where he provided 11 assists in 75 appearances and became a regular with Italy. He was raised in the club’s youth academy, which will help with the lists, and will alternate with Kwadwo Asamoah on that flank. Dalbert instead never made much of an impression in Milan, failing to match his good performances at Nice, but he will now get a fresh start in a new club where there will not be much competition in his role. Both defenders moved on a season-long loan, but Inter will have the option to buy out Biraghi.
