Inter send Icardi to PSG

Even though it dragged until the final day of the transfer market, the Mauro Icardi saga had a rather satisfying ending for everybody involved, at least for the time being, while its conclusion could come next summer. On Monday, Inter agreed to loan him to PSG with a hefty option to buy for a total price tag of €70M.

The striker has been at odds with the management for the better part of the calendar year and was stripped of the captaincy in February as result of tumultuous negotiation to extend the contract. He was not called up for six weeks after that while supposedly dealing with a knee injury and a limited role in the remaining portion of the season.

He was fully frozen out this summer to the point that he recently sued the team in order to be reintegrated into full training and asked for damages. He rebuffed the attempts to sign him coming from Roma and Napoli and his #9 was given to Romelu Lukaku.

If he convinces the French club to buy him out, he could be their main centre-forward in the future considering the Edinson Cavani has just a year left on his contract. He is just a season removed from a 29-goal campaign and he is only 26. An extraordinary finisher but with little else to offer in his game, he scored 124 times in 219 appearances with the Benemata.
