FA Cup Final Best Combined XI

Sunday’s FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium will be contested between two London teams as Arsenal and Chelsea meet for the third time this season.

Frank Lampard’s side have had the better of the first two meetings this season, in the Premier League, winning 2-1 at the Emirates in December and then being held 2-2 at home the following month.

Arsenal looked to have improved greatly in the final weeks of the season, including victories over both Liverpool and their FA Cup semi-final win against Manchester City.

Prior to the final showdown here is the best side we could pick among the two squads based on their current form:

Goalkeeper: Emi Martinez
Frank Lampard has a decision to make over whether to keep Willy Caballero as his cup goalkeeper or start Kepa in the final. His opposite number doesn’t have much choice with Bernd Leno injured but Emi Martinez has looked good since finally being given a chance at Arsenal.

Cesar Azpilicueta
One of the most consistent defenders in Premier League history, Cesar Azpilicueta starts on the right of our back three.

Antonio Rudiger
Arsenal have lost Shkodran Mustafi for the remainder of the season through injury whilst David Luiz is inconsistent. Antonio Rudiger is the best centre-back at Chelsea, usually alongside Kurt Zouma with Fikayo Tomori not getting much action since January.

Kieran Tierney
The Gunners have found a gem in Kieran Tierney on the left-hand side of their defence. He could start the FA Cup final in a back three due to injuries. Has a very good cross when bombing forward.

Marcos Alonso
The Chelsea left-back and left wingback edges out Bukayo Saka in our team to play on the left of our midfield four. Marcos Alonso puts some good crosses in from out wide and usually comes up with a few goals and assists over the season.

Dani Ceballos
Mikel Arteta has gone with Dani Ceballos over Lucas Torreira for much of his time in charge. The Spaniard is a hard worker and a good passer in the middle of the park.

Mateo Kovacic
N’Golo Kante is expected to miss the FA Cup final through injury and therefore is ineligible for our team. There’s no excluding Mateo Kovacic though as the Serbian has made the midfield position his own this season with a number of dominant performances. He runs the show in centre midfield.

Willian
Reported Arsenal target Willian is a doubt for the FA Cup final himself, but this could be down to his allegiance rather than fitness. The Brazilian has been an excellent servant for Chelsea over the years and is having another good season. Works his socks off up and down the right.

Mason Mount
The talented midfielder scored Chelsea’s second in their 3-1 win over Manchester United in the semi-finals. Mason Mount has a good long range shot on him, is an excellent passer and has a good reading of the game. Although he’s predominantly a central midfielder, Frank Lampard has played him out wide in an attacking three this season, so we will too.

Olivier Giroud
Lots of options for us in attack but we had to go with Olivier Giroud over Alexandre Lacazette as the central striker. The experienced French man worked hard to displace Tammy Abraham in the starting XI this season and opened the scoring in their semi-final victory. I don’t think Arsenal fans would be too bitter to see him in our team either.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Chelsea have a top left forward in Christian Pulisic but there was no chance the American was getting the call ahead of the Arsenal forward. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one of the best players in world football right now and scored both goals in their 2-0 win over Manchester City to book a place in the final.
