3 players who could join PSG this summer

Paris Saint-Germain are two matches away from winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.

The French Ligue 1 champions will face RB Leipzig in a single-legged semi-final tonight with the winner set to face either Bayern Munich or Lyon in the final at Benfica’s Estadio da Luz on Sunday.

This is only the second time the club have ever reached the final four, since their run in the 1994-95 campaign, which ended in a 3-0 aggregate defeat to eventual winners AC Milan.

With transfer spend in excess of €1 billion over the past nine years, the Champions League trophy has been the one they’ve always let slip away.

Should Thomas Tuchel’s side not win the prized trophy this season, then a few new players may join the ranks at the Parc des Princes in order to strengthen the squad for next season.

PSG have already seen Edinson Cavani and Thomas Meunier leave on a free transfer this summer, whilst Thiago Silva and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will depart after the Champions League campaign is over.

The only signing the French giants have made so far this summer has been making the deal for Mauro Icardi permanent having spent this season on loan from Internazionale. But don’t be surprised if they dip into the transfer kitty a few more times before the window closes in October.

Here are three names already being linked:

Timothy Castagne

The Belgian right-back has had a fine campaign with an Atalanta side that were knocked out of the Champions League last week by PSG themselves. Timothy Castagne has just completed his third season with the Italian side.

Castagne would certainly be a much more defensive-minded full-back than the departing Thomas Meunier and one who is solid in the air too. Thomas Tuchel has numerous goals in attacking options in his team so the German may be wanting to sure up his defence with a move for the right-back.

Wilfried Zaha

Crystal Palace are expected to lose star forward Wilfried Zaha in this transfer window. The Ivory Coast international has been a star in the Premier League for the Eagles and a move to a much bigger club has been calling out for a number of seasons now.

Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are also strongly linked with the 27-year-old but a move to PSG appears to be open for Zaha. Perhaps he’d be a straight swap for Choupo-Moting in that he’d need to bide his time on the bench but he’d certainly be a useful squad player that’s for sure.

Cristiano Ronaldo

One of the surprising stories to hit the news this summer was that Cristiano Ronaldo was unhappy at Juventus and apparently wanted to join Paris Saint-Germain before the disruption in March.

It would be a shock transfer if the Portuguese superstar moved from the Italian giants to the French capital but it’s a move that cannot be ruled out. He’s already won the league in England, Spain and Italy – why not add France to the list before he retires? PSG can certainly afford him.
