Fantasy La Liga Gameweek 2 Picks

Real Madrid begin the defence of their La Liga title on Sunday night with a trip to Real Sociedad, but games that were due to involve Barcelona, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid are still postponed for their involvement in European competition last month.

With seven matches taking place in the Spanish top flight this weekend here are our fantasy football picks:

Goalkeeper: Rui Silva (Granada)
Granada started their season with a 2-0 win at home to Athletic Club last weekend and have a good opportunity to make it six points from six by hosting Deportivo Alaves in gameweek 2.

Goalkeeper Rui Silva will set your fantasy team back just £3.0m and is significantly cheaper than the other two goalkeepers who kept opening weekend clean sheets.

Defender: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
One of the leading points scorers last season, Sergio Ramos should be considered in your fantasy team most weekends. Real Madrid had a great defensive record under Zinedine Zidane last season and start the new campaign away to Real Sociedad.

Imanol Alguacil’s side started with a 1-1 draw away to Villarreal and were beaten in both games by the champions last season. Ramos also has a good eye for goal.

Defender: Raul Albiol (Villarreal)
Villarreal will have been disappointed to have drawn 1-1 at home to Real Sociedad last weekend but should be confident in taking three points this Saturday when they welcome Eibar to the Estadio de la Ceramica. Raul Albiol should be a good option for your defence.

Defender: Dimitri Foulquier (Granada)
Granada qualified for the Europa League last season and had a solid defensive record. With a good opportunity to pick up successive clean sheets to start the new campaign this weekend, Dimitri Foulquier represents very good value at just £3.50m this weekend.

Defender: Djene (Getafe)
Getafe had the best defensive record outside of the top four last season as they narrowly missed out on qualification for the Europa League. They are organised defensively and start their new season at home to Osasuna.

The visitors to the Madrid minnows this weekend were 2-0 winners away to Cadiz last weekend and I expect a tight match between these two that could easily end 0-0. Djene is the cheapest defender available.

Midfielder: Casemiro (Real Madrid)
With a number of the top teams not playing this weekend Real Madrid will likely be the most popular choice of players. Casemiro scored a few goals from midfield last weekend whilst is also good for picking up clean sheets. The Brazilian will set you back just £7.50m compared to teammate Eden Hazard, who is valued at £12.0m.

Midfielder: Denis Cheryshev (Valencia)
Denis Cheryshev came off the bench to record an assist in Valencia’s 4-2 come-from-behind winner in the derby versus Levante last weekend. Although Valencia have financial problems and a number of players promoted from the youth ranks, Javi Gracia’s side are set to play exciting, attacking football this season. Denis Cheryshev will set you back £4.50m when his side travel to Celta Vigo this weekend and should be in line to start.

Midfielder: Moises Gomez (Villarreal)
Villarreal started the new season with a disappointing draw at home to Real Sociedad but should be capable of recording their first win this weekend when they host Eibar on Saturday. They have a few pricey midfielders to pick from so Moises Gomez offers great value at £2.0m.

Forward: Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid)
Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward should be a value pick most weekends as he’ll set you back just £5.0m. Capable of being a match winner and the potential to turn into a superstar, this could be the season Vinicius Junior really breaks out in the Spanish capital. His season begins away in Real Sociedad which should be considered a very winnable game.

Forward: Maximiliano Gomez (Valencia)
A goalscorer last weekend and facing Celta Vigo this Saturday should be all the reason you need to select Maximiliano Gomez in your fantasy team.

Forward: Gerard Moreno (Villarreal)
A tip for the second week in a row, Villarreal scored on the opening weekend and there’s no reason he won’t start a streak when Eibar in town this weekend. Gerard Moreno is good value at £8.50m after scoring 18 La Liga goals last weekend.
