Calcio Predictions – Round One

Just seven games in this round because the matches involving Atalanta, Inter and Spezia have been moved to September 30th as they finished the previous season later than all the other teams.

Fiorentina-Torino: the Gigliati went with continuity, the Granata changed a lot and will have to prove they have bettered themselves after an underwhelming campaign. The Viola were not very inspiring, but they have a better track record in recent clashes and play at home: 2-1.

Verona-Roma: the Scaligeri were deprived of a lot of talent in the transfer market and have begun to recover only late, but Roma are incomplete as well. Verona were an extremely solid and pesky team last season, but it is not a given they will be the same again, at least not immediately. The Giallorossi were not very trustworthy, but they have dominated the match-up recently: 0-1.

Parma-Napoli: the Ducali changed their coach but really have yet to begin their reinforcement campaign, but the roster is decent as is. Fabio Liverani will bring a new style of football and the transition might need time. The Partenopei mostly stayed the same besides adding a new strong weapon and could pick it up where they left off: 1-3.

Genoa-Crotone: the Rossoblù woke up only recently in the transfer market and will mostly roll with what they had in the opener. They will have to tame the Squali’s enthusiasm after the promotion, which however will not have one of their main guys and could struggle defensively out of the gate: 2-1.

Sassuolo-Cagliari: another bout between a team that remained intact and one that instead went through a lot of changes. Lots of ties when these two clubs met recently, but the Neroverdi finished last season on a tear, while the Sardinians might need few weeks to learn the new coach’s philosophy: 4-2.

Juventus-Sampdoria: the Bianconeri will be missing some pieces, but they lost their only home game only when it was no longer meaningful in 2019/2020, de facto sweeping the rest of the schedule. They will obviously want to get off to a good start in the Andrea Pirlo era. It helps that they will face a sneaky, but clearly inferior team: 3-0.

Milan-Bologna: the Rossoneri get a head-start on the rest of Serie A thanks to the Europa League playoffs, but will face a very energetic and prolific side in the first matchday, which want to go places this season. However, the Devil was the best team in the League in the restart and have only built on that: 2-1.
