Serie A Predictions – Round Two

Torino-Atalanta: the Granata did not play very well versus Fiorentina and they will have to tackle a more difficult match-up in this one, albeit at home, while the Goddess will be making their seasonal debut and are unchanged compared to last year: 1-3.

Cagliari-Lazio: the Sardinians were sneaky and resilient in the Sassuolo tilt, where they were outplayed but somehow managed to get the lead. First match of the season for the Biancocelesti, who are pretty the same team they were last season, where they usually fared well against the minnows, at least before the resumption. It is a game that will say a lot about Cagliari’s status: 1-2.

Sampdoria-Benevento: the Blucerchiati stayed close to Juventus for about 70 minutes despite not creating many chances. They will remain uninspiring until they will complete some of the rumoured transfers, but last year they tended to salvaged points whenever they had the opportunity to. The Sanniti were great in Serie B, but it remains to be seen whether their defensive castle will be as stingy in the top league: 1-1.

Inter-Fiorentina: opening fixture for the Nerazzurri as well after a more-than-decent transfer market window that yielded few new toys for Antonio Conte. The Viola played fine versus Torino, nothing too spectacular, but the home team might be too motivated right out of the gate for them to contain: 2-0.

Spezia-Sassuolo: baptism by fire for the Aquilotti, who were fairly lousy defensively in Serie B and will have their new-look back-line immediately tested by one of the most proactive teams in the League, although the Neroverdi were not particularly impressive versus Cagliari: 1-3.

Verona-Udinese: it could be a war of attrition between two defensive-minded team. The Scaligeri, despite some big departures, managed to gum up Roma’s offense. It feels like the Zebrette start slowly every year: 1-0.

Napoli-Genoa: the Partenopei controlled the pace of the Parma contest, but did not really get going until late, so there is surely room for improvement. The Grifone instead was terrific wire-to-wire versus Crotone: while the result was great and they certainly bettered themselves during the window, the result might have been pretty misleading: 2-1.

Crotone-Milan: the Squali struggled against a more experienced side in the opener and the going will get tougher here since they will face what has been the hottest team in Serie A in 2020, something that continued against Bologna: 0-3.

Roma-Juventus: squad list fiasco aside, the Giallorossi were not particularly convincing on the pitch against Verona and were limited to just one or two chances. The Bianconeri instead had an encouraging debut and could take advantage of the opponents’ current sad state of affair: 0-2.

Bologna-Parma: both teams are coming off bad losses against top clubs. The Felsinei fared a little better, especially in the final portion of the clash with Milan and generally seem more equipped now, since the Ducali have operated really slowly in the transfer market: 2-1.
