Fantasy La Liga Gameweek 5 Picks

The 2020-21 Spanish La Liga season continues this weekend following the international break with Granada and Sevilla kicking off the action on Saturday lunchtime.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are both in action on the same day, with the champions welcoming Cadiz to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium before Ronald Koeman’s side are also in the capital, away to Getafe.

Hare are our recommendations for your fantasy team this weekend:

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid)
Real Madrid have kept three clean sheets in their four La Liga games to start the new campaign and are widely-expected to add another one versus Cadiz this weekend. Thibaut Courtois himself has been in fine form to start the new campaign.

Defender: Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
A defender who should be in your team almost every weekend, Sergio Ramos already leaders the points scoring for players in his position with three clean sheets in four and a goal too.

Defender: Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid)
Diego Simeone’s side have conceded just one goal in their first three games of the new season and travel to a Celta Vigo side that have just three goals in five games this season. As well as being expected to keep a clean sheet this weekend, right-back Kieran Trippier also takes the corners.

Defender: Felipe (Atletico Madrid)
If you cannot afford teammate Kieran Trippier, Atleti left-back Felipe is only £5.50m in a match the defence should be looking at a clean sheet. The only difference is that the Brazilian doesn’t take set pieces so is less likely to record an assist.

Defender: Facundo Roncaglia (Osasuna)
Osasuna have started the 2020-21 La Liga season with two wins and two defeats and should fancy their chances of increasing their points tally away to Eibar this weekend. The hosts have lost three of their five games, scoring just four goals. Facundo Roncaglia has to be in your team as he has one goal, one assist and one clean sheet in his two matches so far.

Midfielder: Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona)
Whilst opponents Getafe have a good defensive record dating back to last season, Barcelona will still be expected to take three points from their trip to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Philippe Couinho has been in good form to start the new campaign since returning from Bayern Munich.

Midfielder: Federico Valverde (Real Madrid)
A comfortable win should be on the cards for Zinedine Zidane’s side this weekend. Federico Valverde is an established midfielder in the first team now and already has a goal to his name this season.

Midfielder: Suso (Sevilla)
Sevilla should be able to pick up three points away to Granada in the first La Liga match of the weekend. Suso is always a cheap option for your midfield at just £2.50m and has started two of their three games to start the campaign. He’s a goal threat and a playmaker.

Striker: Gerard Moreno (Villarreal)
Villarreal versus Valencia is a game we can expect plenty of goals in and one of the beneficiaries is bound to the home side’s striker, Gerard Moreno. He already has three goals and an assist to his name this season and the Valencia defence looks anything but stable.

Striker: Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid)
Atletico Madrid come up against one of the leakiest defences this weekend and whilst Joao Felix has not hit the heights since his mega money move from Benfica last summer this is certainly a good opportunity to get some goals in.

Striker: Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
Karim Benzema scored before the international break and is more than capable of notching up more goals for his team and himself when Cadiz travel to the defending champions on Saturday.
