Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 5 Picks

The English Premier League returns from the international break with the Merseyside derby on Saturday lunchtime as leaders Everton welcome defending champions Liverpool across Stanley Park to Goodison Park.

It’s one of two huge fixtures on Saturday as Manchester City host Arsenal in a rematch of their FA Cup semi-final a few months ago when Mikel Arteta surprised his former boss, Pep Guardiola.

Sunday sees a London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, whilst the weekend’s action concludes on Monday night between Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road.

Here are our recommendations for your EPL fantasy team this weekend:

Goalkeeper: Aaron Ramsdale (Sheffield United)
Sheffield United have a great opportunity to pick up their first points of the season this weekend in a battle of the bottom two versus Fulham at Bramall Lane. Chris Wilder’s side haven’t been overly bad this season, losing late versus Leeds and 1-2 at Arsenal. Meanwhile, Fulham have failed to score in three of their first four matches back in the top flight and things already look concerning for Scott Parker’s side. A home win is on the cards and a potential clean sheet too.

Defender: Enda Stevens (Sheffield United)
Fulham have shipped 11 goals in their first four games of the season, so as well as hopes of keeping a clean sheet this weekend, Sheffield United left wingback Enda Stevens could get among the goals too when he gets forward. A cheap option for your team.

Defender: Kurt Zouma (Chelsea)
There haven’t been too many clean sheets in the Premier League this season but Chelsea kept one on Eduoard Mendy’s debut just before the international break. The Blues welcome Southampton to Stamford Bridge on Saturday and if they fail to shut out the Saints, Kurt Zouma has shown he has an eye for goal this season from set pieces.

Defender: Serge Aurier (Tottenham Hotspur)
Aside from an early penalty, Tottenham Hotspur didn’t allow another goal in the final 88 minutes of their victory away to Manchester United before the break. Serge Aurier himself got on the scoresheet too from right-back and should be looking to get in good positions to either assist or score at home to West Ham United this weekend.

Midfielder: James Rodriguez (Everton)
James Rodriguez has scored three goals in his first four Premier League appearances and will be looking to put his name in Everton folklore in the Merseyside derby this weekend. Liverpool shipped seven at Aston Villa before the break and the Toffees are averaging three goals per game.

Midfielder: Neal Maupay (Brighton & Hove Albion)
The rivalry between Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion continues on Sunday when the two meet at Selhurst Park. Roy Hodgson’s side have conceded six goals in their last two games whilst the Seagulls have scored seven in their last three. Neal Maupay leads the line for Graham Potter’s side but is listed as a midfielder in EPL fantasy so take advantage of that this weekend.

Midfielder: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)
Manchester City usually get the better of Arsenal, though that’s far from certain this weekend with how the two teams have started the season. Pep Guardiola’s side may need to score a couple to win this weekend and that would involve Kevin De Bruyne having a big game, which has done on more than one occasion versus the Gunners in the past.

Striker: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
Only teammate Heung-min Son has more fantasy points than Harry Kane this season but the Spurs striker should get his name among the goals this weekend in a London derby versus West Ham.

Striker: Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)
An excellent start to the campaign and well-rested having retired from international duty, Jamie Vardy will be fresh to add to his impressive career goal tally versus Aston Villa.

Striker: Callum Robinson (West Bromwich Albion)
West Bromwich Albion scored three goals in their last home game, versus Chelsea, in which striker Callum Robinson netted a brace before being substituted midway through the second half. Slaven Bilic’s side should be hopeful of three points at home to Burnley this weekend.
