Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round Ten

Standings implications: the resourceful capolista Milan worked their way past Sampdoria too. Change of the guard among the chasers as Roma and Sassuolo did not hurt in each in a rainy contest and were thus overtaken Inter, Juventus and Napoli which, with different degrees of comfort, got the job done versus Bologna, Torino and Crotone. Two more draws on Sunday as Parma-Benevento ended with a nil-nil and Verona and Cagliari shared the spoils in the lunch match. Udinese-Atalanta was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. Limited changes down low, while Genoa and Fiorentina will square off on Monday night.

Confirmations: Romelu Lukaku and Ciro Immobile made it to the stat-sheet again, moving respectively to eight and six goals in Serie A play in the season. Spezia’s M’Bala Nzola found the target for the fourth time in as many rounds, while fantasy studs Mattia Zaccagni and Lorenzo Insigne hit the net for the second consecutive round. Bullseye again from the penalty spot for Franck Kessie.

Guess who is back: Achraf Hakimi reappeared in spectacular fashion after a quiet stretch with a brace against Bologna. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic returned to the boxsscore after a COVID-related absence with another cheeky free kick. Emanuel Vignato punched in his first Serie A goal shortly after subbing in. Razvan Marin had not been particularly convincing so far but showed up big time versus Verona with a lovely finish after a strong cut through the middle. Andrea Petagna has had limited opportunities so far and eventually delivered late against Crotone. Hirving Lozano got his mojo back after few scoreless rounds. Samu Castillejo knocked it on goal eight seconds after subbing in and it was his first time since August.

Surprise scorers: Weston McKennie delivered almost immediately after entering the match to remedy a difficult situation for the Bianconeri and making it one-all after an early goal by Nicolas N’KoulouNapoli’s gritty midfielder Diego Demme hit the net with a sneakily great strike. Albin Ekdal had not hit the net in five years in Serie A.

Flops of the round: Pedro picked up the second yellow card with a silly foul for somebody that had already been booked, while Jacopo Petriccione saw red because of an x-rated tackle. Weak days for attackers pretty much across the board.

Clutch goal: Torino once again were at the wrong end on a late goal as Leonardo Bonucci put Juventus on top in the final minutes with his second score of the season.
