Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round 13

Standings implications: the top three teams in Serie A were all successful as Milan shook off the last two ties with an impressive win over Sassuolo, Inter notched the sixth one in a row versus Spezia, while Juventus pummeled Parma. In the two most anticipated clashes, Atalanta and Lazio convincingly came out on top against Roma and Napoli, both closing in on the Champions League area.

Sampdoria kept it going by breezing past Crotone. Fiorentina grabbed another decent tie by holding Verona in check, while Torino and Bologna cancelled each other out in a very tense match. One-one tie also between Cagliari and Udinese, but in a much more relaxed environment. Benevento snatched three vital points in the head-to-head clash with Genoa and were the only successful team in the lower half of the table.

Confirmations: Cristiano Ronaldo brushed off the missed PK versus Atalanta with a brace in Parma, while his Robin Alvaro Morata bagged his fifth goal and added a pair of assists. The Portuguese star distanced himself a little from Romelu Lukaku and Ciro Immobile, who both hit the net once. Fabio Quagliarella delivered even though he played limited minutes, moving to six goals in the season and fantasy assets Jakub Jankto and Mikkel Damsgaard contributed as well, the former by scoring and assisting, the latter with a tap-in. Roberto Soriano and Domerico Berardi showed up once again for their respective sides. Dusan Vlahovic buried the second consecutive PK for Fiorentina. Robin Gosens is heating up with two goals in the past four appearances, while Luis Muriel is always hot.

Guess who is back: two welcomed returns for Atalanta as Duvan Zapata blasted one home and Josip Ilicic repeatedly danced through defenders, propelling their push. Luis Alberto found his second goal of the campaign. Rafael Leao registered a new record by finding the target after just six seconds and also his teammate Alexis Saelemaekers returned to the stat-sheet after a lengthy absence. Dejan Kulusevski took advantage of his start to open the goal fest against his former team with his first goal since late October.

Simy resurfaced after six fruitless rounds with a penalty kick and Miguel Veloso notched his second one of the season in the same fashion. Kevin Lasagna finally knocked one past the goalie to snap out of his season-long drought. Simone Verdi came back from an injury and caught the opposing goalie off-guard with a sneaky free kick, opening his tally for 2020/21. Roberto Insigne curled one him in a crunch match, while Marco Sau finished Genoa off with a PK. First career goal for Spezia’s younger Roberto Piccoli.

Surprise scorers: Charalampos Lykogiannis bagged a glorious free kick versus Udinese, his second one in the season.
