Serie A Best Fantasy XI – Round 13

Pepe Reina (7 points): just three clean sheets in another round where offenses generally bested the back-line. Two veteran goalies managed to blank the adversaries, Lazio’s one and Gianluigi Buffon, plus Benevento’s Lorenzo Montipò. The Spaniard pulled it off in the most difficult match-up and was busier, as he parried away a pair of threatening attempts with great diving saves.

Adam Marusic (7 points): on top of helping out the rearguard, the Serbian wingback assisted Ciro Immobile with a gorgeous long cross to set up the opener. He is pretty much running unopposed since Mohamed Fares will be out for a while with a muscular injury and he has taken advantage of the situation.

Alex Sandro (5 points): he was not credited with an assist but he too was instrumental in a goal, as early in the first half of the Parma match, he motored down the left flank and sent in a sharp low-driven cross that was slightly nudged by Alvaro Morata before finding Dejan Kulusevski, who slotted it home.

Gaetano Letizia (5 points): as normal, defenders from the only unbeaten sides dominate the XI and Letizia patrolled his area tidily and furnished his usual contribution to the offense in the match against Genoa, where Benevento snatched three seminal points.

Alexis Saelemaekers (4 points): the peppy Milan winger, who is listed as a defender, punched in what turned out to be a key goal for Milan as he managed to keep up with Theo Hernandez’s gallop on a fast-break, which is a feat on its own.

Jakub Jankto (6 points): he is not the most consistent contributor, but when he shows up, he tends to do it in very noticeable ways. Versus Crotone, he set up Mikkel Damsgaard with a wicked delivery that just needed to be tucked home and found the target on his own with a cross-shot.

Luis Alberto (6 points): the Spanish wizard returned to the box-score on Sunday night with a splendid curled shot after Lazio had managed to recover the ball deep into enemy territory and their attackers combined quickly to hurt the defense that was out-of-position.

Dejan Kulusevski (6 points): he needed to bounce back after a long period of time where he lost some of the consideration by his coach and a trip back to Parma was just what the doctor ordered, as he made it back to the stat-sheet after moths with a signature lefty strike in the bottom corner.

Cristiano Ronaldo (8 points): a routine brace for the Portuguese ace, who hit paydirt twice against Parma, first with a header where he soared unabated between two enemies and then with a powerful shot after cutting through the back-line a little too easily. He leads the League with his 12 goals.

Alvaro Morata (8 points): one goal for the Spanish striker, who however matched his star teammate as he provided two assists, deflecting a cross by Sandro before it got to Kulusevski on the opening goal and then picking out Ronaldo with a soft cross. He bagged a precise late as well.

Ciro Immobile (5 points): he once again carried the team in the Napoli clash by netting a marvelous high-arcing header, giving it an uncatchable trajectory, and then feeding Luis Alberto in stride ahead of the goal that put the adversaries away. The capocannoniere race including Cristiano and Romelu Lukaku is definitely on as the stellar trio has clearly separated itself from the pack, partly thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s prolonged absence.
