Serie A Best Fantasy XI – Round 14

Bartlomiej Dragowski (7 points): just two clean sheets in this round, by Fiorentina, which were helped by an early red card against Juventus, and Benevento, which managed to withstand a prolonged siege laid by Udinese. The Polish goalkeeper answered the bell on the contained number of good chances the Bianconeri managed to create.

Gaetano Letizia (9 points): the always sprightly Sanniti right-back registered his third goal of the season with a lovely strike, helping his team get a pretty big result and continue their climb in the standings. He has not-so-sneakily surged in the top four of fantasy defenders.

Martin Caceres (9 points): he was surprisingly used as wing-back in order to have a more muscular side in a supposedly difficult match-up, but everything went Fiorentina’s way early at the Stadium and the Uruguayan veteran rounded out the score late with a tap-in on a deep foray.

Cristiano Biraghi (6 points): on top of benefitting from the fact that his side blanked Juventus, he set up Martin Caceres’ goal with one of his signature sharp crosses from the base-line. He is surely enjoying life now that the coach has brought back a scheme that gives up a ton of freedom to gallop down the flank.

Kamil Glik (5 points): the giant Polish defender bust out a vintage performance and was key in stopping the Zebrette’s forwards and also got some help from the fact that opponents lacked aplomb from finishing. Benevento are returning to last year’s level defensively and Glik has been one of the driving factor behind the improvements.

Hakan Calhanoglu (8 points): he dominated the Lazio game by actively participating to all three goals, as he finally opened his seasonal tally in domestic play with a PK, as he stepped up to the play with Franck Kessie and Zlatan Ibrahimovic missing in this one, and set up the headers by Ante Rebic and Theo Hernandez with pinpoint corner kicks. Milan better lock him up soon given his expiring contract.

Joao Pedro (8 points): he bounced back in a major way after a little swoon given his usually lofty standards by punishing Roma twice, first with a clinical goal from close range and then with a successful penalty kick. He now has eight goals in the season and is right behind the giants.

Hamed Traore (4 points): after failing to score in the first ten appearances, he got a taste for it and bagged two goals in the past three matches, fully taking advantage of the fact that Jeremie Boga and Filip Djuricic are not in great shape and staking his claim for a bigger role moving forward.

Luis Muriel (8 points): it somehow did not lead to a victory as Atalanta switched off too early, but he produced in a rare start, finding the target twice against Bologna, on a PK and then dazzling fashion after waltzing between hapless defenders in the box, as per usual.

Gianluca Caprari (6 points): he resurfaced after a significant swoon by slotting it one home from midrange against Udinese with a well-taken shot and teeing up Gaetano Letizia with a pretty pass, thus recording his fourth assist of the season. He has hit the net four times.

Francesco Caputo (5 points): the Sassuolo star finally made it back to the stat-sheet after a long absence caused of a nagging thigh injury, pouncing on a lucky ricochet for a comfortable finish in the second half of the Sampdoria match. He also picked up an early assist thanks his tenacity in the box.
