Serie A Fantasy Players of the Month in February – Lukaku and Handanovic

A pretty lean month for Serie A players as just one cracked the EuroFantasyLeague of the Month, however it is fitting that the top two contributors come from what is currently the best team in the Peninsula, Inter, which are going on a run and making a strong push in the title race.

Romelu Lukaku and Samir Handanovic both amassed 21 points in the past 31 days, separating themselves from the competition. The big Belgian is in tremendous form and he has found the target four time in the past four matches, adding two assists.

Despite his strong production since moving to Italy, the ex-Manchester United man still had some naysayers because he had not had much success against the top teams, but he remedied that in February as he scored twice versus Lazio and once in the Derby della Madonnina. Both against Milan and Genoa, he hit the net with vicious shots after ripping off unbridled runs where the opponents that tried to stop him bounced off of him.

He is currently the leader in the fantasy game in Italy, with one point more than Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese ace has scored one more goal (19), but Lukaku has tallied more helpers (six). He teed his usual partner in crime Lautaro Martinez and Matteo Darmian with two quality feeds in the two most recent fixtures.

Handanovic has benefitted greatly from the fact that the Beneamata improved a lot defensively and he has kept six clean sheets in the past seven matches. He contributed himself too, in particular in the clash with Milan, where he pulled three monster saves in the span of ten minutes early in the second half, on close-range attempts by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, where the game was still hanging in the balance. He had a similar display versus Fiorentina in the first game of the month. He is the clear leader among Serie A goalkeeper, outpacing his closest competitor, Gianluigi Donnarumma, by 11 points.

The prowess at both ends has inevitably powered the Nerazzurri to excellent results, as they have prevailed in five contests in a row. They have completed their comeback on the cross-town rivals and now lead the table with a four-point gap over Milan. They have ten more points than Juventus, although the Bianconeri have played one fewer game, positioning themselves as the team to beat for the Scudetto.
