Serie A Fantasy Player of the Month in March – Simy

Serie A is decently represented in the EuroFantasyLeague Team of the Month in February, as three players managed to crack the XI and one paced everybody, alongside Lionel Messi. Despite the fact that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Dusan Vlahovic had a hat-trick in a recent round, the top earner in the Peninsula and across Europe was Simy with his 24 points.

The Crotone star has been the hottest striker in the League recently as he has hit the net in each of the past four matches, bagging a brace in two occasions. He buried three penalty kicks in such stretch, and he is perfect in that regard in the season, but also scored some lovely goals.

Against Atalanta, he took advantage of a defensive miscue and lofted it past the goalkeeper for a consolation goal. Versus Lazio, instead, he found the target with a well-directed strike from from the edge of the box. His nose for the goal was on display in the Torino match, where he in perfect position to nudge it home after Adam Ounas wreaked havoc in the box.

The giant Nigerian international is now up to 13 goals in the season which, on a par with Joao Pedro, is the best clip in Serie A for forwards that play in a minnow. The recent surge allowed him to rectify the fact that he had lost some minutes to newcomer Samuel Di Carmine in the final matches of the Giovanni Stroppa tenure. He resumed being a linchpin of the formation after Serse Cosmi took over and delivered. He had made the stat-sheet three times in the first six tilts back in September, but then he had fallen into a pretty significant slump.

His prolificacy has not translated into good results for his side as Crotone prevailed just once in the past four tilts, against the Granata, while they fell 2-3 at the hands of both Bologna and Lazio. The Squali are a safe bet to get relegated as they are bottom of the table with 15 points in 28 games, eight less than the 17th-placed Torino. However, Simy has likely showed well enough to be poached by another Serie A lower-table team next season. He joined the Pitagorici in 2016 from Gil Vicente and led the second division in scoring in 2019/2020, powering his club to the promotion.

The two other representatives in the EFL Top XI are Piotr Zielinski (13 points) and Dries Mertens (12), as Napoli have been outstanding in the past month and the Polish international in particular has been going like gangbusters in terms of bonuses. David Ospina took home 14 points as the Partenopei have been doing well in both phases. Some strikers in other leagues topped them, but the second and third top contributors were indeed Ronaldo (17) and Vlahovic (16).
