Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round 33

Standing’s implications: Inter took another step towards Scudetto by squeezing past Verona. Atalanta are momentarily in second place as they pummeled Bologna. Juventus was again subpar on the road as they were held to a tie by Fiorentina. Sassuolo continued their push for the seventh spot by downing Sampdoria. Genoa basically wrapped up their bid to avoid relegation by besting Spezia, Udinese by blitzing Benevento away. The Sanniti have been caught by Cagliari, as the Sardinian knocked down a dejected Roma. Crotone delayed the inevitable by outdueling Parma in a very entertaining match.

Confirmations: Simy made up for not scoring in the midweek bout with a brace. Dusan Vlahovic drilled a Panenka. Atalanta’s triple threat, Duvan Zapata, Ruslan Malinovskyi and Luis Muriel feated over the Felsinei. Two goals in a row for Joao Pedro, two in the past three instead for Razvan Marin. Nicolas Viola has hit the net in three straight games, Gianluca Lapadula in two. Domenico Berardi kept it going with an acrobatic finish, Gianluca Scamacca with the easiest of tap-ins. Alvaro Morata hit the net for the second time in the past four games. Hernani recorded his seventh goal of the campaign.

Guess who is back: Adam Ounas resurfaced in glorious fashion after striking out in six consecutive rounds. Gervinho returned to the start sheet after months, Valentin Mihaila following four quiet weeks. Eldor Shomurodov finally snapped out of his slump with a highly technical goal. Carles Perez cashed in on his recent good run of form with his first Serie A goal since October. Aleksey Miranchuk joined the Goddess’ romp. Udinese finally got a goal from a striker as Jayden Braaf slotted it home to round out the lead in Benevento.

Surprise scorers: Lisandro Magallan and Federico Fazio headed home their first goals of the year.  Nahuel Molina opened his seasonal tally after a run of assists, while Remo Freuler and Jens Stryger Larsen notched their second and Tolgay Arslan his third, likewise Charalampos Lykogiannis.

Flops of the round: Cristiano Ronaldo somehow whiffed on a point-blank header that could have decided the Fiorentina game.

Clutch goal: Matteo Darmian has become Antonio Conte’s secret weapon as he has knocked it on goal in pressure situations in two of the last three fixtures.
