Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round 34

Standing’s implications: Inter mathematically won the Scudetto thanks to the win over Crotone and the favorable results on the other pitch. In the Champions League race, it was a positive round for Milan, which handled Benevento, Juventus, which sunk Udinese late, and Lazio that survived Genoa’s late comeback. The Rossoneri and the Bianconeri caught Atalanta in the standings, as the Orobici could not defeat Sassuolo in an unlucky game, and gained ground on Napoli, which were literally pipped the post versus Cagliari. There will be some competition for the seventh position too since Roma lost again versus Sampdoria.

In the relegation struggle, Fiorentina and Spezia made a little step forward by tying respectively with Bologna and Verona and putting one more point between themselves and the 17th place, like the Sardinians. Torino seized the opportunity versus Parma.

Confirmations: Dusan Vlahovic continues to be a flamethrower and put together another brace versus Bologna. The Lazio stars kept up their positive momentum as Ciro Immobile, Joaquin Correa, and Luis Alberto found the target. Victor Osimhen hit the net for the third consecutive tilt. Domenico Berardi has been similarly scorching and buried a PK against Atalanta. Hakan Calhanoglu, Giacomo Bonaventura, and Eddie Salcedo bagged their second goal in the last three rounds, while Christian Eriksen and Jakub Jankto amassed the same tally in the last four matches. Two goals in a row for Genoa strikers Gianluca Scamacca and Eldor Shomurodov and Udinese wing-back Nahuel Molina.

Guess who is back: Cristiano Ronaldo snapped back of his short drought with a key brace. The top three attacking fullbacks in the League, Robin Gosens, Achraf Hakimi, and Theo Hernandez all made the stat-sheet in this round, breaking out of scoring slumps of different lengths. Rodrigo Palacio tripled his production for the whole season in a single game as he assembled a stunning hat-trick in the Fiorentina bout.

Surprise scorers: Riccardo Saponara, Mergim Vojvoda and Adrien Silva recorded their first goal of the season.

Flops of the round: Luis Muriel missed a late PK, and Pierluigi Gollini and Marlon got sent off in the same game. Adam Marusic scored a goofy own goal. Edin Dzeko was also denied from the penalty spot.

Clutch goal: every point is precious in the relegation struggle, especially when it arrives in difficult match-ups. Nahitan Nandez leveled the Napoli clash in Cagliari’s last-gasp effort, scoring his second goal of the campaign with an estirada.
