Serie A Fantasy Recap – Round 35

Standing’s implications: Inter partied all over Sampdoria. Milan throttled Juventus in the key clash of the week as far as the Champions League race is concerned. The Rossoneri now control their own destiny, the Bianconeri no longer do as Atalanta and Napoli made no mistakes in their feasible games, routing Parma and Spezia. Lazio dropped points against Fiorentina, which might have been a lethal blow for their Champions League hopes. Roma repelled Sassuolo’s push by trouncing Crotone.

It was a potentially deciding round for some sides down low as Cagliari emerged victorious in the deathmatch with Benevento, while Torino salvaged a point out of the Verona contest. Genoa were topped by the Neroverdi and Spezia by Napoli: the Aquilotti dropped to 17th place as they were leapfrogged by the Sardinians and hold a three-point lead over the Sanniti

Confirmations: the sizzling Victor Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic put together clinical braces, while Domenico Berardi made the stat-sheet for the third straight fixture. Ruslan Malinovskyi and especially Luis Muriel feasted against Parma. Ante Rebic must have a personal vendetta versus Juventus. Gianluca Lapadula has found the target in three of the last four matches. Rodrigo De Paul hit the net again, but Riccardo Orsolini responded with a PK for his second goal in the last four tilts. Leonardo Pavoletti and Joao Pedro willed Cagliari to victory in a key match-up. Giacomo Raspadori keeps producing and Roberto Piccoli and Aleksey Miranchuk continue to be productive in his limited opportunities. Mergim Vojvoda surprisingly knocked it on goal in two straight rounds, Charalampos Lykogiannis has done it in the past three.

Guess who is back: Lautaro Martinez scored after a quiet month, while Alexis Sanchez had not beaten a goalie in nine appearances. Balde Keita snapped out of a ten-week drought. Piotr Zielinski dished some assists lately, but his last goals came two months ago. Hirving Lozano instead had not broke through since mid-January, partially because of an injury. Roma stars Borja Mayoral, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Lorenzo Pellegrini exploited the Crotone tilt to bounce back after significant scoring droughts. Brahim Diaz and Matteo Pessina had not hit the net in a minute as well. Andrea Pinamonti bagged his first goal of the campaign. Aggressive fullbacks Federico Dimarco and Davide Zappacosta resurfaced in the box score after two months.

Surprise scorers: Roberto Gagliardini recorded his third goal of the season. Fikayo Tomori picked a swell time for his first goal too. Simon Sohm and Juan Francisco Brunetta took advantage of the relaxed nature of the Atalanta bout to make the stat-sheet for the first time in 2020/2021.

Flops of the round: the Juventus linchpins did not show on Sunday night, while the usually reliable Franck Kessie missed a PK.

Clutch goal: no particular heroics in this round so the nod goes to Joao Pedro’s late goal that put down Benevento for good.
