La Liga Club Review Midfielder – Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo had a disappointing season in La Liga and having finished the season in13th place, midfield is one area of the team which could be improved. Over the course of the season eight midfielders started for Celta and between them, they managed just ten goals and if they have any ambitions of reaching the top 6, a goalscoring, creative midfielder should be high on their priority list.

Nemanja Radoja was the midfielder with the most appearances having started 27 games. He is more of a defensive midfielder and will never earn many fantasy football points. With one goal, no assists and 7 clean sheets, it’s hard to make a case for Radoja to be included in your team in the forthcoming season. He is valued at 5M and weighed in with 15 points, giving him a price/performance ratio of 3.4.

Second in the appearance list for Celta Vigo is Pablo Hernandez who made 20 starts. Like his teammate Radoja, one goal, but with one assist, he finished the season with just one point, which quite frankly, is appalling for his value of 4.5M.

Young attacking midfielder Pione Sisto was probably their best performing midfielder. He contributed to a safe, but dull season with 3 goals, 3 assists and 6 clean sheets. The up-and-coming player was one player who managed to stand out in a midfield which needs far more attacking options. He completed the season with 29 points and, valued at 5M, his price/performance ratio finished on 6.2.

Jozabed also disappointed and couldn’t sustain a run in the team. The 3M rated midfielder managed just 12 starts and 7 substitute appearances. He scored two goals, assisted 2 and kept four clean sheets giving him a points total of 18. These statistics gave him a disappointing price/performance ratio of 5.7.

It could be argued that only Radoja and Sisto came through this season with pass marks. However, Celta really need to find a midfielder who is capable of finding the net as well as supplying the strikers with more goals. It’s not good enough to have your top’scoring midfielder on three goals, especially in a high-scoring league like La Liga. They have confirmed their interest in re-signing MAnchester City winger Nolito. Should he come in, the player who started 9 matches for City last season, scoring four and assisting two, should provide some desparately needed firepower for the long season ahead.
