The race for the Premier League Golden Boot

Britain Soccer Premier Leaguepremier

Harry Kane won the Premier League Golden Boot for the second time last season, edging out Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the last couple of games of the season. Can he make it three-in-a-row? Can Romelu Lukaku top the table after his big-money move to Manchester United or will someone unexpected rise to the top and cause an upset?

Harry Kane targetted 30 goals last season and fell just short with 29. It was enough to secure the top-scorer award and in the end, it was quite comfortable s he finished four ahead of his nearest rival. Considering he missed a significant part of the season through injury, it’s a terrific return for the young striker and he will go into the coming season as the bookmakers favourite to finish top of the pile again.

With 25 goals playing for Everton, there is no denying Romelu Lukaka has an eye for goal and is a top-class finisher. Whether or not he will score as many for Manchester United remains to be seen, but with Jose Mourinho’s defensive style, he will have to put away a high-percentage of chances that come his way if he is to land the Golden Boot.

There is a whole host of new-arrivals who should be in among the goals this season. Mexico’s all-time leading scorer Javier Hernandez has signed on for West Ham United from Bayer Leverkusen and the former Real Madrid striker will line up in a new-look West Ham team next season, hoping for a more successful season than last time around.

Everton have also been busy and replaced Lukaku with Wayne Rooney. Is the former Manchester United and England striker past his best? Perhaps with an extended run in the team in his preferred position could bring a new lease of life to the striker who is, remember, just 31 years old and should still have a good few years left at the top level.

The striker who has probably the most expectation on his shoulders is Arsenal’s record-signing Alexandre Lacazette. He has arrived from Monaco with a huge reputation. With 37 goals in all competitions last season if he can replicate that form in the Premier League, he shouldn’t be far away from the top of the goalscorers table.

There have been some real quality additions in the summer and as we approach the kick-off of the 2017/18 season more will surely follow. One thing is guaranteed though, that this season promises to be as exciting as ever and full of goals.
