Best Strikers in Serie A – Week 13

Little may have changed at the top of the Serie A league table, with only the top three winning their games from all teams in the top seven, but there were a few standout performances from strikers in the Italian top flight.

While the likes of Ciro Immobile and Paulo Dybala may have set the league on fire at times this season, neither made this weekend’s list of the league’s best strikers. So with that said, let’s get down to which ones really made an impact.

In fifth place we have Daniele Verde. He was instrumental in scoring one of Hellas Verona’s two goals in their 2-0 win at Sassuolo, and that win pulls Verona to within a point of the safe spots. They are now also nine clear of bottom club Benevento, who have the horrendous record of having lost all of their first 14 games.

Verde will only set you back 4.5m to include in your fantasy squad, and despite his side’s poor league standing he has managed to amass 10 points so far. That doesn’t represent bad value to be fair, but given the struggles Hellas Verona have had this season it may be prudent to read on and find a forward playing for a side who are generally performing on a slightly higher level.

Next was Gianluca Lapadula. The 5m-rated Genoa forward – on loan from AC Milan – scored as I Rossoblu earned a decent 1-1 draw with Roma. That result isn’t to be overlooked, considering Genoa are fourth bottom while Roma are in fourth place. The four points Lapadula earned from this match only took his season’s total to three though, as he was penalised for a booking against Sampdoria a few weeks ago.

Those two games saw his first points changes, as there had previously been a run of five appearances with no contribution as far as fantasy points go. Genoa moved out of the relegation zone with the draw, and they leapfrogged SPAL in the process.

Moving on to third place – and another 0.5m price tag hike – and we see Simone Verdi sitting on the bronze podium. 5.5m is a bit of an outright bargain for a player of his quality, and his season total of 23 so far may not be the greatest but it certainly isn’t a bad level of output.

He managed to bag six points this weekend, scoring one and creating one in Bologna’s 3-0 win at home against Sampdoria. That result closes the gap between the two sides to six, with Verdi’s team now level with Milan on 20 points and in eighth.

In second place was the previous weekend’s winner Mauro Icardi. The Inter forward might set you back 10m, but he has returned a great 63 points to date this season. Eight of those came this past weekend as Inter overcame the challenge of hosts Cagliari, with Luciano Spalletti’s men claiming a 3-1 victory.

Icardi scored twice for eight points for the week – repeating a feat he had managed just six days previously as well. The result means Inter maintain pressure on league leaders Napoli, with the lead resting at just two points.

Finally, Serie A’s winner from the striker charts was none other than Roberto Inglese. He represents arguably the best value on this whole list as far as value for money goes – he will set you back only 2m to bring him into your squad. Surely fantasy managers have begun doing just that thanks to his 27 points for the season so far?

He scored both of Chievo’s goals as they beat EuroFantasyLeague Podcast favourites SPAL 2-1, keeping their league position of ninth. With a trip to Inter on the horizon Inglese will do well to add many to his tally there, but he’s clearly been taking his opportunities this season and would always be worth another look.
